Clutches again

I have just been speaking to Direct Clutch here in Brisbane about a clutch for my 3S TA22.
The guy recommended a twin plate job costing $1800 or a Single plate, 5 puck brass button with 2900 pounds of pressure at only $440.
Both these clutches will handle the kind of power that I will be wanting and I know the twin plate would probably be the most nice to drive but the price is hella expensive So can anyone give any reasons to lean toward the brass button?
I really dont want to spend $1800

Brass Buttons really are not too bad as long as it's a sprung centre. That is about right for a twin plate and is what I will be getting later on when I need it. Don't over estimate (exagerate) power figures to clutch places as they WILL give you a clutch rated to that and in 98% of times it will be far more than you need. Really discuss what you are really wanting from the clutch and what realistic power it will be putting out. Most of the time a normal full face with a upgraded pressure plate might be all you need.
And Direct Clutch are now 1 week overdue getting me a clutch for my Supra.

Ask them if a ceramic button clutch will do the job... they're much nicer to drive. I'm really happy with mine, but wastegate's brass clutch was a biatch to drive!

I've been looking at an excedy plate for my 3s that has 8 smaller pads. Meant to be quite stong but a lot less harsh than a button.

Yup, Direct Clutch. They said it would hold at least 550hp.

550Hp I'll take some of that
So yours is a 5 puck ceramic job? What pressure do you know?
I have been searching on here and people have been talking about getting 1 ton pressure plates.
The guy I spoke to said he could do 2900 pounds for mine mine! Does thise mean my leg is going to get bigger than it already is?

I've gotten my last couple of clutches from Direct, and am generally pretty happy - they can be a tad slow sometimes, but usually it's worth the wait. My current clutch has 3500lbs clamp, and I haven't developed Weightlifter's Leg yet! It's fine to use.

Yeah mine's a 5-puck ceramic sprung centre. I'm not sure what clamp they put on it, they just said "about 50% more than standard" (2JZ-GE). It's definitely not hard to use, even with my puny left leg.

Ok I'm confused I just spoke to direct clutch and the guy said that ceramic button and brass button was the exact same thing
I mentioned that someone I know of(read Norbie) got a ceramic button off them and it was ok to drive on the road, and the guy said mine would be exactly the same.
Should I just fork out the $440 and see how it goes?

Hmmm, I'm confused as well. I don't remember seeing anything brass on my clutch plate!

Cool 1 - the button clutches that I have looked at lately all seem to be this pinky ceramic/metallic compound - most ppl are referring to them as brass (maybe some brass in the compound).
Maybe this is where the confusion starts and finishes

Here is what my old one looked like.
It was a 3400lb pressure plate with that 5 puck. The "Springs" are solid metal.

Don't worry I paid though the arse for mine as I went to Jim Berry, good clutch but was alittle expensive at $770 for it. I'm getting a full face clutch with a 3200lb pressure plate done at Direct Clutch now for $550, infact it should have been here this arvo but didn't turn up.. Lucky for them I didn't get my replacement 1JZ today.

The clutch pictured above is for an R154, which is much bigger than a W5x clutch. I doubt you'd get 3500lb clamp on a W5x pressure plate.
