Hi all. Al here. I've just started on a new project of fitting a 1JZ to a VK commodore. I bought the car off a mate who had spent zillions on it then lost interest after the dirty old v8 fell to bits. I was looking for a Soarer because I loved the engine in them but when the VK popped up I thought it would be a better car to modify. i.e. less expensive. I've got a JZX81 chaser cut in the garage and am just sorting through the wiring before I start on the engine fitting.
My previous Toyota was a TA22 with 3TGTE.
Any initial advice on this project from anyone would be appreciated.

good luck on the conversion!
heres a quick idea to freak out your friends and bystanders -
get the badges off a toyota Lexcen ( the rebadged commodore ) and put them on your VK when the conversions done
then if anyone asks - say its the original lexcen prototype -
it would be good for a laugh !!!

hey man, I knew a fella who was doing this same conversion. Only just started though and ran out of money so I am not much help to you. ANyway, where abouts on the sunshine coast are you? I am from Maroochydore and drive a white 88 soarer. I also have a 1jz corona that is nearly finished. Are you doing the conversion all by yourself or getting someone to do it?

I'm using both factory computer and a V4 Wolf 3d. The 3D is out of a mates Soarer and was wired in piggy back style, no need to remove the engine loom, just 3 injector triggers and 3 ignition triggers with plugs so you can run either wolf or factory in either ignition or injection, great for fault finding and retains driveabilty. The rest of the Wolf was externally wired. I'm planning on making some turbo dumps prior to fitment as well. The one thing I would like is some clearer wiring diagrams if anyone knows of a source.
Classique71, I like the Lexcen idea, but the car is actually really nice(a change for an old commo) so I don't think I'll drill any holes in it(except for the intercooler pipes).

There was a guy on here that had put a 1JZ-GTE into a VL DunnyDoor. Name started with a D from memory...
There was also one from Newcastle that was at the Nationals.
Maybe a search will find them?

go to www.performanceforums.com and look in the turbos or the engine conversion section. Nick has put up a pic which shows all the pinouts of the 1jz ecu. That should help.
I think there is a fellow on here named VL-1jz or something like that. ALso, i sold my last 1jz to a fella putting one in a VL from toowoomba.
