My 79 4K is in a critical condition and I have to perform a heart transplant asap.

I went out and bought a reconditioned 82 4K w/4spd for $200 should i have gone for the high-cam? are the high-cams more powerful?

yup. 'hi-cam' was toyotas response to the overhead cams of the day like in the dattos etc. it's meant to mean that the cam is high in the block... and it is half way up Wink but they are exactly the same engines...

i once had a guy who worked at toyota for 20 years try to tell me that the hi-cam was a different type of motor and made more power... but he was also trying to sell his 'daughters' car.

chuck the motor in.. all good.

I was under the impression that the "hi-cam" had a higher lift cam and made 65hp instead of 58hp and was available in the KE70. But this is just from what I can interpret on the net (we all know how reliable that is), I have no actual experience with the 4K.

not much Smile has anyone dynoed a stock 4K at toymods dyno day??
it's not hard to pull 100hp from a 4K tho.....

all solid lifter K motors have same lift. the xK-B motors had slightly longer duration, but same lift.
if anything the later motors had less power due to more emissions crap (like vacuum actuated secondaries Razz)

I've got 33hp from a stock 3K and 42hp from a stock 5K (with the 5K it was the same carby, dizzy, exhaust etc. as the 3K, I just swapped the motor.

ie. they don't have much power at all!
