Hybrid 4A and general Sprinter conversion Thu, 17 July 2003 02:50 Go to next message
I am in the process of getting myself a stock sprinter, and then to convert it to a 4AGE. If I just buy a complete 4AGE RWD engine (loom, ecu, flywheel etc. the whole lot), is there anything else I need to get it going?

If I was to mix and match parts from big port and small port engines what would be the best combination for outright power?

It is my understanding that the big port engine has a lighter bottom end, but lower compression pistons which are not interchangable with the small port items due to a smaller gudgeon pin. So is it correct to say that the big port bottom end with say 10.5 forged pistons is going to be a better performer then a complete small port bottom end?

I am not ceratin on the block, is there any advantage in using a small port block over a big port?

I know that the big port head flows much better, but it lacks intake velocity which makes it pretty low torque perticularly in the low end. I prefer revable engines over torquey ones, so is there any power to be gained by running a mildly worked small port over a big port?

I plan to work this engine pretty seriously (more than 180hp), so an aftermarket computer is on my list too. With the combination of the GZE crank angle sensor, and some coil-over-plug items from a 1GGTE (i think that is correct), what would be the best back for your buck computer? Will I need to run higher flowing injectors then the big port or small port ones? Are AE101 GZE injectors adequate?

If you have any other information that you think may be useful, feel free to post it.

Thanks Guys.

Have you considered the fuel system with the upgrade from the 4AC carb to EFI?

An aftermarket cup-holder for the induced velocity change Laughing

You'd need a whole new exhaust and extractors
