Jude's 77 RA23
|

After an impatient wait while I raised finances, I finally took delivery of my 77 RA23 yesterday. This morning I took some shots of my baby and here are some of the better ones

bonnet not sitting flush because idiot who came to look at car tried to close it the wrong way and bent the support, shall be fixed asap

More pics here http://xdesign.com.au/stuff/celica/
first thing is to get this baby running. Has been sitting around for a few years so will need the basics changed and looked at.

Its only had two owners, both ladies and both looked after it very well, so it is pretty much all original yeah.
Auto I know. I was going to put my manual box in it, but after some umming and aahhing, I've just decided to wait until I do an engine swap, then I'll put a manual in obviously

miniscule surface rust at the top of the engine bay and alittle bubbling on the bottom left under the door. Pretty much surface tho, nothing major.

well, I got it running tonight, and the shed got absolutely chocka's full of two years worth of exhaust crud buildup Seems to run exceptionally smoothly. At the moment its slipping out of reverse and not engaging it, had to push it back into the shed, but I'll be checking the transmission fluid again tomorrow. Thought I put enough in but will look once more. This is a pic I took of it as it is now

and this is a very quick photoshop job of what I want it to look like, with 16" ROH and lowered

Gotta get it on the road and with a sound system first tho

ok the gear slipping was the fluid levels. Before I ran it the levels where fine, but after it ran it mast have worked its way around properly and there wasn't enough. Put in another litre, but I think it needs alittle more, as reverse takes about a second or two to engage. But overall, she drives like a dream

Heya,
Mate that car looks perfect, a great place to start building it up from. The exterior looks straight and the paint looks awesome, you've got yourself a nice RA23 there! Cant wait to see it develop over time.

Hey Jude, those Roh wheels pooly real purdy! Do they come in a low offset to suit the RA23? I may look at the as a budget option if I can't afford the SimmonsOMs

I emailed ROH and asked if they came in 4 stud and the dude said they basically make them up to suit your car, and its an 8-10 week wait, so I guess they will fit perfectly He didn't say how much they would cost tho....
those wheels are Chicane btw

Heya,
Celica-Sue:
Not knowing heaps about Wheels & all, but the 15" ROH Gamblers I got on my TA23(Similar offset & stud pattern to the RA23 isn't it? I cold be wrong though...), are also not a bad option, look good on a old skool celica, dont think they are that expensive(compared to a set of simmons that is...)either....

I'll keep the piccy up for a while, but dont want to hijack someones car thread.

Well, I actually have money this week! so I'll be buying new tyres on friday and taking her over. Only other things that need doing are replacing the passenger window winder as it doesn't have a knob, and screwing back in the rear seats. Going to take it over in Midland, hoping to get it done first time
I really like those rims Alch, then again, I like freaking everything about that car

alchemist-
being the original owner of your rims i can tell you they were about $270each w/out tyres(from my poor memory) made to suit the celica. only prob with them is i think 15s were the biggest they make the "gambler" in.
still a very nice rim. have had two ta22 with them now. maybe soon to be three.

270 aye? I wonder how much the 16" will be each, would prolly be looking at around 2000 for wheels and tyres then I guess, wouldn't mind get some pirelli pzero's. Hopefully if I get my CC this week I'll start getting the sound system components, which if anyone has seen my other threads will know is a Nomad Jukebox Zen http://www.nomadworld.com/products/Jukebox_Zen/ 60GB of mp3 goodness, yummy

got her reg'd yesterday car was very topical down there, lots of people where impressed with how nice it was. Apparently the tint is a micron too dark but he let that slide, and he said I need to fill in a crack in the wheel and get some speaker covers, but other then that it was all good I'll get some photo's up when I get private plates for it. Wanted to order them there but didn't have enough cash on me.

3500 lil davo. I've probably spent about 200 on fluids, and around 500 on some new tyres. Didn't mind paying more to get good tyres as they will be going on my black celica when I get mags for this one. I ordered some plates yesterday so they should be four weeks Will start buying stereo stuff next weekend most likely.

Another piece of the audio puzzle has fallen into place, got some front speakers today, Pioneer TS-E1695.

Going to get Kenwood 7x10's for the back as I won't be putting in a subwoofer. They where out of stock there but I'll look around at some other places. Then I need the centre console and it'll all go in. Then I need to get one of these

so I can hook up one of these

Got the rear speakers, Kenwood KFC-7189ie 7x10's

decided against getting a new console, going to mod the current one. The car only has an immobiliser so I've thought wisely to put an alarm in it first before chucking this audio stuff in

The equipment

got the front speakers in no problemo

uh-oh, I don't know if these 7x10's are going to fit in there

...........damnit

Ah well, going to get a mate of mine over to see about making up a fake shelf. He's a cabbie and made up a shelf for his camry cause of a similar problem.
here was a nice angle shot as well

other car is my brother's fairlane 500, which people are welcome to buy! Getting some custom plates tomorrow, so will take some more shots then

Looks nice man, I gotta get some new 6" for the parcel shelf, I've got some crappy Kenwood ones there at the moment, distort at any hint of bass but spent all my $$$ on the car and little fixes for it so far, still gotta get some rust cut out so speakers'll just have to wait abit

Mate has done up the shelf and will drop in for a fitting on friday, so hopefully all that goes well and I'll have some 7x10's in soon. When he came over he gave me a demo of his stereo and it was freaking awesome. Sitting in the back of his camry I couldn't hear him talking in the front at all, and no distortion. He suggested I get an amp, as he said it made all the difference to his setup, and he didn't have to get a sub because the rear's were so good. So today I plonked down for a 400w JBL GT2000 amp

should have it all in by this weekend if everything goes to plan. After getting the nomad, that's going to be all the non-mechanical work I want to do on it. Driving a 25yr old 4cylinder 3sp auto is just jacking me off too much, so its time to do a 1G conversion now damnit!

no joy at all getting those 7x10's in. Just too damn small an area. Impossible without cutting metal. sigh. Decided to hang onto them, as when I do a 1G conversion I want to get a droptank put in so that will get the fuel tank more out of the way and cutting metal will be more of an option.
That will be it for now, as I said before, everything now other then running upkeep has to be performance based. So I'll be saving for a few months then start getting the required gear for a 1G conversion

you can't give up that easy dude i fitted 6*9's in the back of mine i have just got a huge bit of wood in there about 7 - 8cm high. Just make up a templat out of cardboard get your tape measure out and get sawing. (even if you had to angle them they'd fit
When my car works i'll come show you if you want.
ps From that pictur it looks like you had about as much room as me to play around with which is fck all, lucky my old boy has a million tools i had to use this screw driver thing that was like a z to get the screws in the back then i had to fit in the boot and put some screws in from under neath to secure it.

yeah, the plan was a fake shelf. A cabbie mate of mine made up some templates but the cone of the speaker is just too big. Sitting in the hole it is only a few mill from the window, being a coupe with a worse angle and all. Plus the seatbelts point is right there too. Everything was not in our favour, with fuel lines running right underneath too. The plan now is to hang onto them, and when I do the engine conversion, put in a drop tank so the tank is out of the way and then cut some metal and drop them in properly. The speakers in my doors are pretty darn good tho and will last till then
