Idle Up Queries Sun, 20 July 2003 05:56 Go to next message
My cold idle has stopped working. I've tried to narrow down the possibilites and have come to the conlusion of - possible water temp sender failure?

i have replaced the auxuriarly valve and cleaned it all out where the spring is. the coolant/water feed is flowing to the valve but still no avail?

i dont have p/s, aircon. so the other ports are blocked off.

my other guess is the theormostat..?

any help will be appreciated as i would love to have my motor warm up during the winter months..

hmmm....i dont see how a faulty thermostat would cause your cold idle to stop working

hmm yeah.. stupid of me to assume that..

it's always cold and takes about 25minutes@800-100RPM idling to let it warm up to middle gauge.

but that would only make it idle higher/longer till it reaches C. arghh dont know why

Yeah if a thermostat is stuck on "OPEN" ...cold idle will be on for longer

if its stuck on "CLOSED" it will have no affect on duration of cold idle but it will eventually overheat obviously

i turned the cold idle off altogether in my corona

it dead seat idle at around 2-2.5K on cold idle and i chringed evertime it happened on cold mornings....esp since i had a head gasket problem

dunno what is with the late 80' early 90's cars and their high cold idle
