ae101 gze Question/aftermarket ECU's Sun, 20 July 2003 07:11 Go to next message
heres my question, will any ae101 gze loom fit a ae101 gze?
Or can you only use the loom that came with that motor?
Or would i be better off just going an aftermarket, if so whats the going prices roughly and what type, ie microtech, haltech series etc

Also, what hubs would i need to put in to my twinky so im able to use the ae101 lsd box?

Any replies will be most appreciated

Gday twincam,

I'm no expert on this but this is the way i see it. I really don't think there was more than one model ae101 gze engine in japan, so, if you have an ae101 gze wiring loom, it should fit your engine perfectly, and if it doesn't fit perfect, it will be very close! Maybe one had aircon and the other didn't, so you might find no aircon wiring or something little like that. Doubt it though, should all be fine. Are the ae101 gze fuse boxes the same as the fuse boxes you have ?

However, if you're going to put in the ae101 gze loom yourself, you might elect to just go get a nice aftermarket system rather than paying to have the original loom put on, and then realising you want an aftermarket system and paying for the wiring to be done twice. I opted to use the original ecu with my 20 valve 4age, this was due to me knowing that i didn't have much money at the time, and also wasn't playing with forced induction (not to say that an aftermarket would not have been better though).

So as far as the wiring is concerned my advise would be compare the difference between having the standard ecu all wired up (loom cost/installationg if you dont do it yourself) with how much it will cost to get a microtech or something shoved in there. Go to a wiring place and get quotes i reckon!

Hope this helped someway,
Seeks.

Hey seeks, thanks for the detailed response

Umm the fuse box, yeh i dunno what they look like Sad this motor didnt come with one, everything bar the comp/ecu fuse box, i was hoping the normal 4age fuse might work, anyone wanna shed some light on this, will it work?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&a mp;item=2424151385&category=32624&rd=1
thats the computer i was going to get to run it, will these do the job? What are peoples opinions about haltech E6K's?

I reckon youd be right about not worrying about the orignal ae101 loom, by time i find one, buy it, pay someone to install it, it would almost be have if not more of an aftermarket one neways, id be better of saving a little extra and getting it `eh?

a std loom will be bout 200 or so bucks
to wire it up i charge 500 but only if u lived in sydney
i do travel but price goes up

to fit an aftermarket ecu and get it turned u will be looking at about 2500 to 3500

make sure u dont need any other extras like modules and stuff when u buy an aftermarket ecu
some ecus have hidden costs like u might need extra sensors

then u need about 500 to 600 to get it wired up

then u need about 300 to 400 to get it turned

a guy i know got quoted 4500 to supply and fit and tune an autronic to a 4agze

Side show, i have tried e-mailing you a few times, yet no replies? Sad why?

Anyways thanks for replying to this Smile Do you know where i can get a std loom/ecu and fuse box from? if so how much please?

With this haltech one, from what the haltech guy e-mailed me today, is that i need
3 Bar MAP Sensor (Turbo/Supercharged 30psi max): AU$198.00
Basic Connector Kit (air/coolant/tps/map sensor connectors only): AU$36.00
and the
Haltech E6K NEW EMS Suit 4AGE/4AGZE: AU$1515.00

Total: AU$1749.00

How does that sound? are you familiar with haltech or should i best steer clear of them?

i reply to all emails im pretty sure

u can try sss automotive
not to sure how much
best to call them02 989 66111

i have some experience in autronic
most aftermarket ecus will do the job good for u
it just depends if the tuner knows that ecu well

i can get u an autronic for 2200
i think that will use yr ignitor, throttle sensor,
kit comes with an air temp sensor
and u have to buy a temp sensor which are very cheap bout 20 bucks

sorry i dont have much to do with prices for programmable ecus
as im not doing any of them at the moment so i dont know what prices or discounts they can give me since i dont buy them bulk

i can chase em up

but expect to spend about 3000 plus for a haltech/autronic/motec to be wired up and tuned

u mihgt get the haltech done for bit cheaper

best to find a good tuner in yr area and ask them prices for complete job and ask how good they know the ecu

Thanks sideshow, might just try SSS, worth a try anyway.

I reckon i'll most likely go the haltech way though, got someone in the trade, might be able to get it a bit cheaper then that too, so yeh, im sure there's a haltech tuner in melbourne, bit more calling around me thinks Laughing

EvilJack, was that $1500 for the EMS stinger and install/tune? Or just to install and tune it? May i ask how much the EMS was?

argh, what to do! just called an engineer, i wont get passed, and if i want to, its gonna cost like almost 3000!!! Apparently i cant use an aftermarket computer with that motor in a 1987+ vehicle, well technically i can but its gonna cost me a fourch! Mad

then i call SSS in Syd looking for a loom/ecu, he reckons i wont find one, especially with an igniter Rolling Eyes he can sell me a package for the rolla, motor/box(non-lsd)/loom/ecu/radiator/
drive shafts and a few other little bits and pieces for 2500 with delivery to Vic.

what do i do!? buy this ae101 with lsd box minus loom/ecu or half that price, or get it from SSS or just buy a f**king half cut!? ARGHHHHHHH

GZE ppl in melb, help me please! Sad

get a half cut, then you will have all the loom, sensors, brakes, driveshafts, relays, tacho, etc etc etc and you wont have too much trouble getting it running (apart from the rear engine mount with the E series box). You will save money in the long run with a GZE halfcut. ps, dont pay over $2200-2400 for a halfcut, pay anymore than that and you are really getting ripped off.
