SUPER AWESOME INCREDIBLE DRIFT DAY !!!

Hope I got your attention, I was having trouble expressing just how much fun we had at a recent lap dash club practice day in my old home town on Tanworth just over a week ago.
I got word of a club practice day where we could attend and if we joined ($30 for 6 months) we could have unlimmited laps of the local circuit "OAKBURN PARK" which is a large go cart track for only $10 !!!
Before you all write off the track as too small becasue of its official "go cart" status , it was designed for by the local motorsport club for use by cars as well - Tamworth has a large club with many serious hillclimb and circuit racing teams.
Andy and Jamie from JT Autogas in Newcastle joined my Brother ( blue r32) and I up there for two days of tyre shredding mayhem.
Here are a couple of pics. There hours of vid footage, and if anyone can recommend a more convenient way to display pics or pics then please let me know.
Anyhow this is all leading to a proposal which i will soon pose to a club meting very soon to hold a club track/drift weekend up there later this year.
Pricing would be minimal, potentially less than $100 per car for two days on the track (all to ourselves) including camping at the track (with decent facilities) and bus tranfers into town for drinkies on the saturday night.
Anyhow it was AWESOME, the club up there needs financial help and would love to host us for a weekend, so I will be going back and taking others. Why not make it a Toymods event !!
heres some pics.... (excuse the poor quality - they are ripped off video and i was rushed)
Heres me, not doing to bad considering i have a fractured wrist and a full cast on my left arm !!

Jamie in the "BBQ" - this thing runs dedicated lpg and put down some very competitive times on the track. Its is a 2.2L 4 cyl turbo now - soon to be big twin turbo 1j powered !!

All thanks go to Jamie of JT Autogas - for logistical and techinical help all weekend - transporting cars/parts/tyres/rum. And to James (also of JT's) for his efforts in the pits changing my tyres 4 times in one day cos i had a broken wrist, and a heavy right foot.
We took home several prizes inlcuding best drift and fastest lap 6 cyl turbo (Andy). Fastest lap 4 cyl turbo went to Jamie in the ute. and I got the lawnmower prize for my spectacular 90+ kph "off" ( a great (deliberate) fishtail that got out of hand - or cast i should say).
enjoy
Matt

Matt,
Count me in for sure. I've been wanting to put my car on the track for a while, and be able to let it all hang out.
You mentioned tyres a few times, how many did you go through? Did you bring extras with you or buy them there? Do you have racing wheels/tyres that you used on this day. I know Andy has some drag slicks, maybe he has racing slicks too?

We did go through a few sets of tyres. Jamie was running retreads. Andy just got some second handers (which he kindly lent me) on spare rims and we swapped numerous times throughout the day. the track is heavy on the right hand tyres and so we were rotating for even wear.
A couple of sets of tyres delaminated quite early with 50% tread still on them just from heat buildup I assume. It really is a necessity for cars with any sort of grunt to have some spare rear (or whatever the driven end is) tyres. Andy came with some treaded slicks as well to do some times, once he had reset the track record for street rgo'd cars he put the drifters on and went silly.
We set the tone of the day - as all of the local club guys were there to test and tune hence neat driving + no smoke, by about lunch time we had super sedans and open wheelers all trying to link corners while bagging the rears. There wasnt supposed to be any prizes for the day but they were so stoked with the spectacle the local valvoline rep went and got us some !!
next time i might be able to organise a local tyre shop to open late on saturday to swap tyres on rims etc ready for sunday and round 2.
If we go up we could have go to whoa, lap dash as well as drift and other tarmac motorkhana events. there is even a dirt speedway oval if people are keen (this might mean extra cost though).

Matt,
Sounds like you had a ball. Thats a crackup that they went out and found some prizes for you! This is what we needed at Dubbo, a track to muck around on.
If you do organise a toymods outing up there, I'll sort out some extra tyres for me to muck around with.
If theres a drift day, can we wet down the track and take off our front spoilers like the drifters in Japan do?!? Not that I need to get more air to my intercooler (don't have one!), but could be good if I go into the grass as it wouldn't kill my spoiler.
Would've been a good cruise up to Tamworth too. I did it in my last supra (non turbo), was great with cruise control etc. Going out to "the farm" in a lowered supra is not encouraged though. I almost got stuck a few times where it was 4wd only tracks.

Drift day eh? Methinks another road trip to NSW is in order if such an event gets off the ground.

It was raining when we went out on the saturday for private practice, so i left my good road tyres on the car. It was very slippery and the car understeered pretty badly (nothing the handbrake and popping the clutch couldnt fix though).
However the sunday with the drift tyres on the back it was actually slipprier in the dry, once the tyres were too hot I had to feather the throttle down every straight (2nd and 3rd gear) it was fun to begin with - being able to pendulum the length of every strraight , for the whole length !!- but it was easy to get too adventurous and end up in the middle of the paddock as i did at over 90 kmh.
There is nothing to hit though, and only the pride was dented. Even the lowest spoilers are safe here.
