ta22 3tgteu conversion THE BIG QUESTION

heya guys i have been thinking that after my hybrid conversion i was going to go 3tgteu, so i was wondering, i know that you have to change the engine mount on the passenger side of the motor to suit the different mounts, but why not just take an engine mount of a 2t/3t/2tg and just bolt that to the block and retain the factory mounts with any need for modification at all??????
im really confused why people are modifying things if they dont need to be done. Then i was thinking that the oil feed comes from between that mount, so will it still fit between the 2t mount or not, that is the question!!!
thanks guys

Check out my site
http://users.chariot.net.au/~stmezz/celica.htm
All you need to know about the 3T GTE is there.
Yes, you can use the standard 2T, 3T mount on the drivers side and this means no other mods for that side.
Check out the 3T GTE mount and compare it to the standard 2T mount and you will begin to realise why people modify for it to fit. Its a thicker mount and suited for the extra load of the 3T GTE. The standard one is ok, but personally I like to use the 3T GTE mounts instead.
Yes, it is possible to use the standard 2T, 3T mount on the passenger side and still have room for the oil return if you modify the piping. I did this with my first 3T GTE, BUT the standard oil drain line needs to be modified and its a very TIGHT fit usin gthe standard mount. Its much easier to modify the crossmember instead.
If you do put a 3T GTE in a TA22, remember that you also have to upgrade the front brakes, suspension etc etc if you haven't already done so. Also the W55 gearbox is a good option as well as a better diff or at least LSD for the T series.
Good luck,
Simon

Modify the cross member it is the best way to go. If you don't want to modify it your self buy mine already done with negative camber pins(negative -1.5deg) for only $150 done by IDB. As Simon says you can get away with leaving the crossmember and using the standard mount on the passanger side but you will have to bugger with the oil return. By the way you only have to move it 10mm outwards on the passanger side.

Juzzo,
If the engine is apart, block off the oil return with an aluminium plate and run the oil return straight into the sump at the location that is most convenient for you (I can help you with this).
Don't worry about using the steel factory oil drain (they crack after time and cause a bitch of an oil leak + they are a in a total pain of a spot, the drain also runs straight into one of the crank counterweights), instead an "ortac" flexible rubber hose does good or some pretty braided line if you prefer.
This is just my opinion on a problem that has many possible solutions.
Regards
Jason
