need opinions on sr20det in ta22 conversion please! Mon, 21 July 2003 09:08 Go to next message
I need some help in determining what engine to drop into the old girl. I originally had my heart set on the 1uzfe v8 but the engineer i spoke to (IM IN NSW) told me i'd need to do a heap of chassis strenghtening and suspension tweaks as well as brakes etc to get it passed. I dont want to go the 4agte route as Yogi lives in my town and its a bit hard to compete with that. the 3tgte is a little old in the tooth, the 3sgte i have heard is not the easiest otor to get good power out of. So it got me thinking about my options as it seems ive exhausted my toyota options. The sr20det black rocker cover version seems alright to me it is relatively modern, has stacks of aftermarket bolt on goodies and options. the 2 lt turbo would cause me less hasle with the engineers as a brake upgrade is all that required by them.

My question is has anyone done this or know someone who has or where some info is on this conversion. Any info regarding pros and cons of this conversion would be appreciated.

i would love to get any information on this also, as i was going to go the 3tgte path, but many people have said stay clear as its too old, then i wanted 13bt like 4sfed, but the sr sounds like a great idea, i know there as something like this for sale recently, one with a red rocker cover...

Where did you here the 3SGTE is a hard motor to get power out of , Whoever told you that is a wank , I have a 3SGTE in my TA22 , with stock inturnals and a hiflowed CT26 running 23psi it's putting out 260 RWKW , The 3SGTE is a bit harder conversion but it is definatly worth it and it's a toyota , And im sure a lot will agree with me saying a TA22 should have nothing under the bonett but a Toyota Motor !!!!!
