thinking of a new project.
Plan is to buy early 90's 4x4 hilux.
Drop in 1uz with aftermarket management.
W58 box behind it.
BUT
Will the transfer case bolt to the W58? I don't think so but feel free to state otherwise.
What other gearbox options are there?
Keep in mind that apart from the aftermaket management, extractors and exhaust and slight intake mods the engine will be stock and tuned more for low end torque rather than a huge top end.

The transfer case will not bolt up to the W58. Your best bet is to keep your existing transmission and use a 1UZ->R154 bellhousing which is available from Castlemaine Rod Shop. The R154 is basically a 2WD version of the Hilux 4WD transmission, and the bellhousings are interchangeable.

Cool, 4x4 1uz.
With extractors and small intake mods the engine will still be putting out a lot of power. As for tuned for torque, not sure that is the case, I think you just tune it best you can. Torque is great on these engines though.
Gimme a PM if you want to talk about aftermarket computer on it.
