most 2TG came out of gt i thought.
it was the performance upgrade you got with buying a gt
it being black might mean its a later model engine. more towards the late 70s early 80s. not really in the know just a thought.
mainly the number on the front of the head will tell you mostly about the motor.

The LT model had the 2T engine, ST had 2TB and the GT and GTV came with the twin cam 2TG.
Early version are carbies and not Yamaha heads. Later model were EFI. Early 2TG valve covers were black wrinkle finish from the factory.

simon is correct here, but you will find most of the carby 2tg's came from the gt celica/carina and the electronically injected 2tg's (2tgeu) came out of the t18's and so on! there is a good website that can tell you what generation 2tg your is just by the type of cam cover you have!!!
