5M-GE problems

im looking for some help with my 1983 2.8L 5MGE Supra, i've rebuilt the engine with an 82 block, 85 head, and 83 electronics and intake, ive been having problem starting it, i figured out it was getting no fuel due to bad wiring to the injectors, so i wiring in some wires from another harness (possibly from another year, though i bought it thinking it was for an 83)but it still wouldnt start, so on a whim i changed the AFM from the 83 to an 82 AFM (which i pretty sure shouldnt work at all) and it started?!?! But it ran REALLY bad and had no throttle response, so i found out i had the wrong AFM, tested the 83 and found it to be bad, so i got another one (im certain its from an 83 which ran before the guy sold it to me) and still nothing, i have checked the timing over 15 times, and everything else should be good because it ran, but with the wrong AFM! Next im going to get another 83 ECU and try it, and maybe even another complete 83 wiring harness, Anybody have any ideas? thanks in advance

So are you currently using the ECU, AFM and wiring from the same model Supra?

i think so, what is the part nmber for an 83 ECU, or would it be different here in the states?

It's probably different due to emissions requirements etc. We never had the 5M-GE that early; I think it arrived around 1986 in the MX73 Cressida. Aus-spec Supras never had a 5M-GE at all.

Like Norbie, I can't help but think that you have done something like a mix and match of bits. We only got the digital ECU 5MGEs in a Cressida....you guys and the Europeans got the early analogue ECUed 5MGEs as well as the digital ECUed ones.
