one of my mates has one, they seem good, but to do the video calls, you have to have the headset. also i think there is a catch with there plans. no more than $99 for voice calls?? my phone bill is around the $300 mark, and would love that... but i dont see where they make money?!
also was told that this technology was out in japan for quite some time now, and that these 3 phones that are out here now, are the rejects that japan didnt like, that have been rebadged and ready for sale to other people who think they are the best..
[/rant]
lol.. thats my 2c

No, the maximum you can be charged per month for video calls is $99.....
So it'd be perfect for you.
The current phones just don't do it for me. Their screens are small or their interfaces (ie: number pad and joystick) are crap.
I'm waiting for the one with the stylus. PDA and phone in one.

Yep Rex has one.
I reckon its well worth it. Nark is incorrect, its a $99 cap on voice calls.
The voice calls are also very cheap @ 15c per 30sec, which is still 2c cheapr than the Optus $250 per month plan. Also theres no peak/off peak horseshit so it ends quite good value.
Services (eMail, maps, games, weather, comedy clips, movie previews etc.) are capped @ $25 and all other features have caps too. I was working out that if i use it like theres no tomorrow, the most ill pay each month is $150.
Plus they'll give you $300 credit on your new fone in 12months
I bought the NEC e808 outright for $380 (no plan, waived connection $38 free video calls) and it is a vey good little unit. Sure its larger than most fones but it has a full keyboard and still is very much easy to carry and fits into my pocket.
There is much more (such as eMail, mp3, JAVA and data storage etc) but im not a salesman so ill leave it at that. Just go in and hit them wih your questions and you'll be pretty impressed as i was...
So if anyone has any cool pics/movies thet wish to share shoot them over to 0404 027 105 or Rex_Kelway@three.com.au. If you have any questions just eMail me and ill try and answer.
As for how they make their money, all other networks are limited to SMS and Voice calls. Whereas 3 can make money off of much more such services (maps, comedy, downloads, news, eMail etc) as well as calls and sms/mms all using the same infrastructure.

Heya,
I got a 3 phone, to $380 outright, no plans, $32 free vid calls a month, its a pretty nice deal. Phones(NEC e606) great can take piccies/vids of stuff. Also got about 15 MP3's on there to get me to work and back. My phone bill seems to be about $10-15 cheaps compared to my Telstra plan. Some complaints though....Battery life on a NEC e606 is about a day...if that if you are making alot of calls, if you make numerous video calls you will not even get a day. On a good note, NEC kindly give you a spare battery for free & 3 give you an extended batter(bout 3 days life) and another charger for free, although the extened battery is huge and not worth using, I just use little batt & charge it nitely, if you can cope with that than its a pretty good service.

i got the nec 606
my girlfriend went on it at the same time for the 2 for 1 deal so it's cheap, and free calls to each other all the time, not just yes time bullshit. i have been told that their pricing is frozen until the end of 2004 but can't be certain of this.
the downside is that at the moment i believe there is no stock left of the more popular phones, and even the others are running out fast. coverage is fine where i am, occasionally have dropped down to 2g but i really don't care for video calls so doesn't matter

Here in SA it started as 2 for 1 but then they just said that anyone can get one for half price (not need two people). Just had to ask
Not only that but they dropped the price of the e808 to the same price as the e606.

I was talking about video calls.
Not sure if this falls in the cap though. The brochures are ambiguous on this point.
Quote: | On 3 you only pay for what you use. Voice calls to 3 and Orange customers are
FREE for the first 10 minutes, all day every day. And no matter how much you talk you won't pay more than $99 each month for national voice calls*.
|
And the pricing page:
http://www.three.com.au/pricing/howpricing.gif
The cap is only mentioned under voice calls.

Also, the existance of the Fair Use policy indicates that something is open for abuse...
I remember reading somewhere or being told that the most you pay for video calls is $99 per month....
But my memory isn't the most trustworthy thing in the world...

Nope, voice calls are capped to $99, you get $32 worth of free video calls a month, but what you use beyond that you pay for.
