St162 For Dummies - info sites? Thu, 24 July 2003 01:18 Go to next message

Hi all,

I got into an argument with my father-in-law lastnight about the wife's ST162 (3SGE). He insists that it is "an exotic imported sports car" that is a lot more expensive to tune and get parts for - compared to his late 90s OHC Holden! Evil or Very Mad "I looked on the web at the Celica Sports Car Club and saw that these cars are sports and rally cars", says he.

Now, reason & the spoken facts got me no-where. Mad
Can anyone suggest a site that reviews the model and/or engine on reliability and maintainance costs? I would really like some concise, unbiased, impressive evidence here to defend Toyota, Celicas and 3SGE's. Where can I send him?

Thanks folks,

JZA-61

take it from someone who owns one.

parts are very very cheap.

running costs are incredibly cheap

they are very fun to own and drive

they are cheap to buy

I don't know of any sites that say, "This is the cheapest car ever to have", but I know NRMA have some comparisons and stuff somewhere, or the RACV for like small cars and stuff..

Cheers, I'll try them. Yeah, we know it's a damn good car. We've had it for 3 years now. It's just that, every time we do spend money on maintaining the car, the father-in-law starts saying "that's what you get for buying one of them thar exotic import sports cars". He won't listen to what I have to say, so I want to give him something in print from someone like the NRMA or RAC that syas what I've been saying: it's an economical, reliable car that is every bit as good as a similarly priced Holden. I'll let you know what I can dig up.

and so is this.. about the 99 celica I know... but if the it is the case for the 99 Celica, how much more so for the 89 Smile

they gave it 5 stars for "Running Costs"

Quote:

Running Costs

A combined economy of 36.7 mpg for the standard car really is exceptional for such a sporty car - and, considering the 190 model's performance, its figure of 33.6 mpg is also admirable; that's part of the reason why it was given an 'engine of the year' award by, erm, engineers. Insurance groups are not bad considering the ultimate performance, while assured reliability and low serving costs also won't break the bank. Even company car drivers'll like it, thanks to low CO2 emissions.

heh - i think the rallycar hes speaking is of the GT4 Celicas

now price wise they are a different kettle of fish to a standard FWD celica, maintainance wise they are a shade more costly too
