Long story....
A work mate of mine bought it ages ago all bog stock as a rock.
From about 2yrs ago I watched him change and modify it, spending heaps and heaps of money on it.
When the gearbox died, he got bored of it, and just decided to get rid of it.
When the opportunity presented itself, I couldn't say no, so I bought it, fixed it myself, and now that I'm done with it, I'll pass it on.
I bought it for $6K not that long ago, cause I knew what a good car it was. I've played with it getting some more boost, fixing the box, putting in a new clutch and just had some fun. As this is my 3rd car, it's time to concentrate on my other projects.
As I don't REALLY need this car, someone could buy it today, and I wouldn't be put out. I'll just use a different car to drive to work Very Happy
I'm not trying to get an unrealistic price for it (like $8K) cause I wasn't the one that spent all the money on it.

DLuded: Mate, bring your own wheels, and you can have it for $5700.
If you want to make it a good sleeper, just take out the bump stops from the shocks to get full suspension travel out of the koni's and the ride will be awesome. It's only 35mm lower, so with std wheels, it rides nice, but doesn't look heaps low.
I still have the std Twin Cam bar (long story there too) to put it back to complete original.
For all those nostalgic people there, I can even show you the original motor in my garage with engine numbers to match old rego papers! BTW that motor has already been sold, deposit taken.
The pictures don't really do it justice, it looks awesome, even without the chromies.

DLuded: It's a definate 123kW version. I've driven the 108kW ones and they just feel like a strong twin cam Wink not really worth the effort if you've already got one is it?

DLuded: I'm terribly sorry, but I answered your MAP and AFM question a bit too hastily. It has got an AFM right after the pod, so it is an AFM version. Not sure about the 108kW rating though. I still stand by my experience of being in other GZE's that are slower.
Also, with the larger wheels it accelerates slower because of the larger rolling diameter, sort of changing the diff ratio.

As for your question on Km's the engine has done. It was pulled out of the front cut with 100K on it. It was installed in this car when it was on about 200K. Engineered last year with 209K. Bottom end was rebuilt at the beginning of this year (due to a mechanic not doing up some flywheel bolts properly, destroying the big end bearings and a couple of other things).

Let me know if you are interested, and I can come and take you for a ride.

Scratch that, it doesn't accelerate slower, it has the IMPRESSION that it accelerates slower. The speedo actually reads slower than you are doing.

Thanks mate,

Just haven't had the time to do it, that's all.
Sure it doesn't hold 11psi, but I can still make the gauge hit 11psi on the freeway in 3rd.
Probably go a bit faster with the ABV mod. It's fast enough for me now as it is, for my daily driver anyway Wink

ABV mod is just the redirections of some vacuum lines. I just haven't bothered to do it yet, that's all.
Here's the link to show how easy it is. The vacuum lines are only tiny little things.
http://mr2sc.com/websites/tech/abvlines.htm

Okay next question, to be honest, yes it does have rust, but only tiny weenie little amounts in the rain channels. Just needs a little touch up with some stop rust or something, no holes or anything like that, just that horrid brown colour in a couple of small spots tucked away (you know, just below the roofline above the doors) But not the common rust like around the rear guards or near the fuel filler thingo.
Just one more thing I haven't bothered with yet.

sorry to harp (im at work and bored so please indulge me Laughing)
but the abv mod must have been done or it is simply not possible to acheive 11 psi. it bleeds off at 7 otherwise.
i had a 4agze with a big NEVO pully and 11psi was the max i could get.

I know what you're saying, but thems the facts, I can get it to go to 11psi (only sometimes). It takes a while and a bit of revs to get it to 11psi though. Not like it goes POP! 11psi...it takes it's time to work it's way up, once it goes past 8psi.
To make you feel better, I'll even confirm it tonight, I'll trace the vacuum lines, to what I know has only the boost gauge plugged into them.
Maybe all your harping is just going to persuade me enough to just do it anyway. Oh well, on saturday I'll go looking for some T pieces and some vacuum plugs and just do the bloody thing. (I'm at work procrastinating the work I have to do Wink)

Re: Exp of Int. '88 AE82 Twin Cam Corolla Hatch - 4AGZE Fri, 25 July 2003 04:59 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Well, that's easy.
Simple maths, for whatever I sell the car for, without mags, take that from the price $6500 and you'll have your mag's price.
So if I sell for $5700 without mags, that makes $800 left for the mags.
I'm here to sell stuff, not to make money. Very Happy

Yeah, I hope he buys it too! I took the mouth of the car because my work driveway was too steep to get into without it scraping everday, so I took it off.
Hehehe...no worries on the rims, but first I have to sell the car without them before they become available. Wink
