Whering noise Thu, 24 July 2003 05:54 Go to next message
Hey there.

i'm not exactly sure how to describe it but in the back end of my car (an 84 Corolla cs-x) there's an almost constant wherring noise and i'm just wondering if it could be the tyres making road noise? (the tyres are 'remoulds')((the car yard put them on. not me) OR could it be my diff playing up somehow?
i know you guys wont be able to give me a definate answer but any suggestions / help would be great! Smile

note: i only just got the car about 1 week ago..

and on another note, would buying either a holley or webber carby give the ke70 more power? or is it wishful thinking..?

thanx Very Happy

A whirring noise could be lots of things... without more detailed information, we'd only be taking wild guesses. If you don't know much about cars, have you considered taking it to a mechanic? Just a crazy idea...

i think its just the ke70's diff, they dont last that long from what i've heard, is the noise only noticable over 80km?, my brother went through like 3 ke70 diffs before he found a good one

starts at about 30-40km/hr so i thought it would most likely be the shitty tires.
i'll swap the tires tomorrow; see if there's any difference.

If it sounds like a UFO, then gets louder but not badly loudly, exactly like a wiiring sound its the wheel bearings, i had that problem on the ke30 rolla and sisters dreaded Telstar and it stopped as soon as we changed them.

I you want to do some stuff like changing wheel bearings yourself, get a ke70 rolla Technical manual.

wishful thinking. the stock carb is usally ok for up to around 6000 with stock cam. once you get into bigger cams and rpm, then you might think of going a little bigger. removing the "high speed valve/flap" from the carb secondary is an easy way to improve airflow. ditching the abysmal stock aircleaner housing will make the car feel much more spritely (but will be noisier)

my ke70 makes the same noise. I am getting the rear wheel bearing changed on Monday so I will tell you how it goes.

also, mine has a 5k with a 32/36 webber and it is still slow as shit. If i wanted this to be a fast car i would do a 4ag swap!

bassaholic55 , what cam and headwork, exhuast are you running?
a 32/36 has a primary choke that is a little large (26mm) for a 1.5, and unless you can take advantage of the extra flow potential of the weber, it won't make any difference.. put in a 280 degree cam, and port it and it wakes up a little Wink

I have absolutely no idea what mods this engine has! (probably nothing) It does have some extractors and the webber, that is it. This is just my cheap work car. I have my 1jz Corona to go fast in! (One day)
