Aftermarket ECU with Toyota Auto? Fri, 25 July 2003 05:54 Go to next message
Howdy

Just wondering if anyone knows how to (or if) you can run a Toyota auto gearbox with an aftermarket ECU?

With respect to the 1JZ autos primarily, but any experiences with 7M/2J/1UZ would be helpful as they are essentially the same box.

No experiences but Allan had an email chat with the guys at Motec. Apparently the M800 can but it would take a day (ie a lot of money) to set up the hysteresis points. You can cheat a bit because those points are mapped out (IIRC even plotted out) in the TSRM.

I'm not sure if the other Motecs can or if other aftermarket ECUs can.

Just adding the relevant section of the TSRM:

Cheers Dave.

i recently wired up a 1jz with auto to the standard ecu in an old soarer

they r goin to run and ems on it aswell

all u do is tap into the crank and cam signal wires
then cut the injector wires and run them to aftermarket ecu
and do same with ignition wires

so basicly u run both computers

the std on runs the auto and the auxilary stuff
and the aftermarket ecu runs the injectors and the ignition

Apexi Power FC can now handle 1J auto.
Was in a issue of HPI a while ago.
It lets you change the shift points on the fly with the hand controler.
Which could be fun if you weren't driving but had the hand controler. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Have you got a copy of HPI where this info is printed ?
For the life of me I cannot find any information regarding the PowerFC working on any 1JZ auto apart from the Chaser.
Please enlighten me.

I think it was the supra/soarer special.
I cannot find it at the moment but i think it had a gold coloured supra on the front cover.
It was in the first section where they tell ya about all the new tech for cars. It was below something about sard injectors if i remember corectly.

This is more or less exactly how mine is run... Autronic SMC for engine; 7M-GE/AT ECU for transmission.

I dug up that issue:

Seems as though it's not suitable for the Supra/Soarer though.

MV AUTOMATICS ask for michael

just ordered a item that allows you to run the toyota box with after market ecu. it is an electrical item that is wired into your box and makes it full manual shift.

i highly recommend this Michael, they rebuilt my standard box, shift kit and stall and strengthen. very very pleased

So you got the "Stage 3" kit then ?

Michael is a top bloke... extremely helpful and willing to offer advice on virtually anything to do with the A340E autos.
