just a few questions... 1) how many rwkw's can the 6 speed handle before modifying it 2) can it be made to fit the 1uzfe 3) is the clutch run by cable or hydrolics
if it is put on the 1uzfe and has hydrolics does the 1uz have the mounting for the slave cylinder for the clutch to work
also does anyone have an idea how much it would cost for it to be matted to the 1uz

1) Don't know, maybe Getrag in Germany can tell you. Its a V160 or V161 gearbox depending on ratios. 2) Yes, but lots of work 3) It's hydraulic and mounted on the bell-housing
There are manual kits for the 1uzfe, try Hadfields or the Castlemaine Rod Shop, but it wont be cheap!!! The box alone is worth more than my wifes car.
If anyones interested, here are the ratios v161 v160 1 3.724 3.827 2 2.246 2.360 3 1.541 1.685 4 1.205 1.312 5 1.000 1.000 6 0.818 0.793

There are Mk4 Supra's in the US running 9 second 1/4 miles with the stock 6-speed box... that makes it pretty much the strongest manual box in any production car, ever! It won't have any problems with the torque of a 1UZ.

Xtreme Corona:
Not sure what stage your at with the idea of the 1uz and the supra 6 speed but if you find any good info on prices, troubles etc post it up as I'm realy interested in the use of that set up with a couple of turbos. I reckon it'll be a killer! I started looking into it a little while ago but I haven't got the dosh at the mo, gota sell one of my cars to pony up the doe. That set up in a Mk3 supra was just meant to be! Fair bit to think about though, but with the job done right, what a match! I've heard nothing but good things about boosting that motor to about 10psi and if you wanted to go wild then theres a hell of a lot of potential. I just dont understand why I haven't seen more conversions using a boosted 1uz, the motors are relatively cheap at $1500? Only problem i saw was going to be the price of the 6 speed. What are they worth? Well post it up if you get anything off the ground!

I always thought that the V160 was the six-speed Getrag box from the Mk4 Supra...I was under the assumption that the V161 was the box used in the Altezza/IS200...
Can anyone clarify this for me?

I've heard some pretty bad things about the IS200 gearbox... So better make sure it's the getrag 6-speed off and Mk4 and not the IS200 box... Wreckers seem to rip people off by selling the gearbox out of the IS200 as a Supra mk4 six speed...
My 2 cents....

I dont think your going to get into a power range to worry the 6 speed Supra box. Not when u see those power figures some yanks are putting thru them

The V160 and V161 are practically identical, I think the only difference is ratios. The Altezza 6-speed is a totally different box, and it's the same one used in the S15 200SX, MX5 and S2000. It is widely regarded as one of the best RWD boxes around at the moment, and I've yet to hear anything negative about them...

Okay, something bad - They're rather expensive! The Nissan turbo boys are running up around 400hp through them okay, I hear, so they seem to be pretty strong.

I might just go have to test drive a 200SX so I can see if I like the box
Guarantee the dealer is more likely to let me test one of those than a S2000 ....

Norbie,
Do you know what altezza 6-speed boxes go for or even if they are fairly available at all?
I am tossing the idea of a 6-speed box for my MkII at the moment as it is gonna get a 1jz (or a 2jz) as soon as I can find a motor with vvt-i.

I've heard rumours of Altezza 6-speeds going for about $2k, but I've never seriously looked into this so I can't confirm. I don't know about putting one behind a torquey six like the 1JZ/2JZ, remember they're only put behind relatively small engines from the factory... and of course you'd be up for a custom bellhousing to suit a JZ block, so it wouldn't be cheap by any means.
I reckon you're better off sourcing a late-model W58 with the correct bellhousing - plug and play, no fuss. The later model W58's (with the bigger input shaft) are supposed to be pretty tough.
