New corolla sportivo??

just wonderind what the gerneral consensus was on the new sportivo?? I'm looking into buying one, but not sure if its worth the extra money?? on the website, its $19990 for an accent (bottom line) and $29990 for the sportivo...
the sportivo has abs, and electric options, and a 141kw engine.. is it worth the extra??
im under the impression it will be, especially when keeping it for 3+ years...
any input would be great...

I have read several reviews of the new corolla and they don't like it that much. I think one I read was in wheels magazine this month actually...?
They much prefer the new Astra turbo actually (I hate to say it)

Hey All,
I have a friend that is trading up his 18 month old 1ZZ-FE Corolla for the Sportivo 2ZZ-GE Corolla. I'll let you guys find out what you think but it should go as hard or similar to that of my dad's Celica. Though, I can't get comprehensive insurance on it under my name i think because the insurance will treat it like the Celica...
Cheers.

If your looking at upgrading to a new rolla anyway, the sportivo is definatley worth the extra 10g over the base.
Climate control
Lexus style instruments
full leather interior
body kit
16" rims
141kw
6 speed
6 disc stacker.
Not bad for only 10g more. Sure the turbo astra has more torque and may be better, but your up for another 8-9g. Value for money = da rolla

Hey I test drove one a month ago. I seemed to like it alot and I mean alot. It is powerful and has a high reving engine. To me if you want a nice quick car stock get this car. But however I wouldn't buy the base model and try to modify it thinking it will go faster than the sportivo as I think it will cost a fair bit. Plus the dealer told me they are only bringing out a few hundred maybe 2 or 3 each month for short time. So I think you should get one.
Cheers

Have read this and tell me what you guys think.
Toyota has quoted the Corolla sportvo as having 141kw at the flywheel. In a recent Motor mag they compared the:
Sportivo Corolla 141kw
Turbee Astra 147kw
Supercharged Mini 120kw
Ford Focus sporty one 127kw
As part of the test they dynoed all four cars and the corolla got the lowest figure of 87 front hoop kw whilst the astra got the highest with 100fwkw, the ford and mini in between with around 88 and 89 respectively.
Im just wondering whether the toyotas torque figure which is lowest out of the four contributed to the lowest reading, but if torque makes no difference then shouldnt the power at the flywheel be around the 120-130kw mark. So maybe Toyota is misquoting their power figures.
confusing.....

I prefer it too.. kidding.. though having driven the turbo, it feels very linear in terms of power delivery from 1500rpm when the turbo just gives a constant stream of power to the redline so it's not peaky by any means.
If the Sportivo produces those numbers, can't it market itself against the Teg Type R? surely someone can sell Type R performance (and handling) at <$40k... though it may caniballise (sp?) the Celica sales.

The new rolla rocks and they go pretty well too...
It's really no use comparing the Astra to the Rolla anywayz... Cause thats Forced Induction vs Naturally Aspirated...
Matt, try NRMA ... Might be 'cheaper'... Hahaha...

Can anybody say Blacktop 20V? That doesn't make its quoted power, not even on an engine dyno where there isn't room for speculation.

As a daily driver I'm really happy with mine's performance on the road.
Interestingly, most people talk about the big kick up in the rev range, but after driving one for a while there's more than one. I find the engine to be really flexible, and probably the most responsive engine I've ever driven. I didn't really think I'd like it as much as I do.
Which gear did they dyno it in? 5th?
And er insurance.....$65 per month. Insure it through the toyota dealership at the time and Allianz are really good with their toyota extra care stuff.
And look up close at the Astra Turbo. The build quality is way below the Corolla. Hav you ever driven an old astra. Fark, give me an ae92 anyday over a similiar year astra....

I own a sportivo, love it. Heaps of power and quite a good engine to play with. Looks like a dressed up corolla and people at the lights have no idea what is under the bonnet... worth it for the look on their faces
My insurance is about $900 pa. (28, sydney, rating 1)
The difference between the stock corolla and the sportivo is well worth the extra cash...
...and there is still all the TRD goodies available

I wouldn't go that far... I haven't had anything fallen off my car yet and mine is lowered with Koni + 16".. no panel alignment issues.... no paint imperfection problems, no trim fallen off... had some warranty job.. but nothing that would alarm anyone. Opel have improved a lot in the past 4-5 years to get right up close to the Japanese standards so I'm not even considering the TR Astra. They were a piece of shxx... In fact the Thai factory I think builds better Zafira than the Belgiums and Spanish in building the Astra and Barina.
And I also have in the household an AE92... now that is a shitter but a reliable shitter none-other-the-less.

new sportivos are VERY nice on the inside.
My mate just bought one
still looks like a levin (sleeper, kinda)
But they are not that quick, has hothing below 6 grand, my car is exactally the same as one over the quarter. (AE-71 PV 100Kw)
I like the idea of my 8 grand shitbox (total spent) being just as quick as a $33,000 hot hatch!!
But as i said VERY VERY nice on the inside. love the climate control
but still its the best new non-grandpa toyota made

Hey guys,
My bro got one a month or so ago and i've driven it quite a bit. I myself own an ae92 silvertop 20v.
To be honest the engines feel very similar up until about 5500-6000 rpm, I think the 'jolt' in the sportivo is very defined, has a very "on/off" feel about it as opposed to laggy (but strong) forced induction.
I think when you look at the features, full beautiful leather interior, nice 6 speed box etc etc this car is a good thing.
Seems like the next new thing in toyotas range of little zippy N/A toyotas.
For a new N/A zippy hatch - I like it,
Seeks.
PS as if you'd turn one down as your work car (yes, his work got him a sportivo for him (and me I guess) to flog the shite out of).
