Grrrrr Another smash!!!!

I tell ya. My luck has run out.
Today while driving home from work some young chick in a pulsar rear ended me.
The traffic was stopped almost on the highway and she wasn't paying enough attention.
Needless to say when i heard her screaching tyres i creeped up as far as i could to prevent her from hitting me but unfortunately there was not enough room.
She did serve but still dinted my bumper on the corner.
After i exchange details with her i get another nasty suprise.
I thinks she hit my exhaust as well and it has somehow damaged my gearbox. So now it wont really engage drive. Or if it does it just slips like a bitch.
Another surprise when i get home. No reverse. Throw her in reverse and she just does nothing. Give it some revs to build up trans fluid presure. Nothing.
So the supra is off the road till insurance can fix her up.
And i feel so depressed again now.
It really hasn't been my year at all with cars.
Brett.

Sorry mate to hear your Supra off the road. To make you feel better... here is a photo of my smash (the one I had to pay with no insurance involvement) a few months ago.

Well, i hope my luck is changing.
But i doubt it. Priced a new gearbox from toyota today incase mine is totally shagged.
If u heard a large bang anywhere in australia today about 4pm.
That was my jaw hitting the ground when the toyota dude said $7000 approx.
If it is covered by insurance then the chicks insurance company is going to be mighty pissed at her.
Also, rear bumper - $600.
I stopped asking after that because i was worried about my heart.
Lol.
Brett.

make sure the insurance company doesnt weasle out of paying for your gearbox etc
get at least 3 quotes from 3 different smash repairers and try and get proof that the damage to the gearbox weas cause by the accident
let us know how it goes

I don't want them to write it off damnit.
I don't know tho whether they will replace or rebuild gearbox.
Have to wait and see. Find out tomorrow sometime i guess.
Would an insurance company use a second hand gearbox for repairs???

I dont know, but I'd be finding out.
do whatever you can to use a 2nd hand box... just $7k of damage would write off your car, not even considering exhaust etc
how hard did she hit you? it's possible the drive shaft got shoved, which would explain none of your gears working
sounds like it should be repairable tho... good luck!

zzt - as a matter of interest, if you hit a tree how did you manage to damage everything except the bumper? that's about the worst accident you could have, 'cause the bumper didn't take any of the damage.

hi Brett, that sucks big-time about the car
maybe it's just the linkage for the shifter? or the wiring to the box has been broken ... cause if you gave the gearbox a good shove thru the tail-shaft then all the mounts/links on the diff are suspect - and that would probably render the car undrivable?
it could be that the computer's not correctly engaging the gears? the 1G box has electronics that: surround the selector housing (a position sensor? wiring for solenoids to control gears?), a speed sensor (to drive electronic dash?), wiring for a solenoid (o/drive lockup?) and something else at the back of the box (speed sensor used by ECU as it works without elec dash?). If you broke/buggered some of these you might get similar symptoms?
or, i have the motor/gearbox out of the yellow RA - would the auto fit the supra? for the rest of you wondering WTF am i'm talking about, the engine is a 1G-GTE with auto still attached. My research suggests that it's a A340e gearbox. Or will the unique-bell-housing-thing that makes it so hard to find a suitable manual gearbox (W58?) also stike here?
or, maybe an importer has suitable gearbox (i was emailing Rolin Imports <www.japparts.com.au>to try to buy a manual box for the 1G). At least they'll give you an idea about prices for short-warrantied gearboxes?
best-o-luck ;(
Charles.

Sorry Draven,
Someone dove into the drivers side of the front bumper bar, but i don't want to talk about it...
Cheers.

I am prety sure it was the drive shaft that got shoved that caused it.
Bugger it all.
Just replaced all the uni joints and rebalanced it too.
Hope that deosn't need to be redone.
Yo chuck. That is the same gearbox as mine but i would need to swap the bellhousing and maybe the extension housing.
I priced a few second hand today and they are pretty cheap.
$375 was cheapest in Brisbane i could find. But got a price of $200 in adelaide.
Fingers crossed now. Assessor is checking it tomorrow so will know more then i guess.
Brett.

now that has to be goddamn irritating ... must of been a decent hit then - at least you don't stuff about when you get collected by moving vehicles?

i wish the W58 manual boxes were around that price ($550 + del so far).
i take it that there's not too much panel damage? it sure looked straight and neat when i visited.

OK
Been assessed.
And i am going to have to pay a percentage of the rebuild based on how much wear compared to smash damage there is.
And considering the fact it will cost the better part of 4000 for a rebuild i think i am screwed.
Looks like i will be taking a cash settlement and dropping in a second hand box.
Anybody got an A340E from a 7M-GTE supra?
Brett.
PS Assessor told me it will definately be going to court.
Ouch.

Some old-timer hit me last thursday. He had yeild sign. He was propably driving eyes closed, just turned in the way. I dodged as much as I could on the ditch side. My damage is totally farked drivers side rear door, bended rear fender and scratched drivers door. Now my new paint is so not nice looking. I'm still sooo ill-humoured. I try to get digicam and get some pics.

Yes. An insurance company's liability ends when the car is restored to a state equal to the condition it was in prior to the accident.
Your car did not have a brand new gearbox, therefore if it was damaged, you will not get a new gearbox. Price up a few second-hand ones, provide these figures to the company, and they will have to pay that figure.

Actually i asked the assessor on friday about a second hand box and he said no.
Something to do with warranty.
But they will rebuild them with new parts.

That bites, hope you get the insurance. I remember when I went into the back of an under cover cop in my sprinter, he'd stopped dead in the middle of the road because of an ambulance going on the other side of the road. Insurance company took a look at my speeding record and laughed at me
