1JZ-GTE -> Cressida? How-To? Wed, 30 July 2003 03:12 Go to next message
Hey Guys,

Im just wondering what is involved in transplanting a 1JZ-GTE into a cressida?

Is it a straight bolt up to the engine mounts + gearbox?

What other items need to be addressed? I know a few ppl have done this conv and would also like to know a ball park figure for the conversion.

Any help is much appreciated ;p

this is a question that doesnt appear on the forums all *that* often, and i too would be interested to know what is generally involved.

the JZX81 chaser front cut is what to look for, practically complete swap, bolt for bolt.

the JZX91 front cut is not as swap happy as the JZX81 but is still easily doable none-the-less

wiring needs to be done, contact sideshow on the forums he offers excellent rates for wiring jobs.

there is a shite load of info on this swap on the forums it may take a bit of searching and reading but it is well worth the effort.

I thought the last Cressida we got was the MX83, which would mean the JZX81 would be the complete bolt-in swap...

half cut was $2000 now $3500 for JZX81 due to popularity and no availability.

exhaust $1000 with twin dumps $1650

modify wiring harness $500 starting point.

if you get some one else to do transplant $2500 lab-our

fuel pump $300, if you install yourself

transmission cooler and lines $400 if you do yourself

new filter and oil for gear box $100 if you do yourself

new filter and oil for engine $75

trans temp guage $180

boost guage $180

spark plugs $60

TOTAL $9445

and this is if you get a clean half cut that has an intercooler with pipes in tact, and if the gearbox isnt stuffed or get a stuffed turbo or get a stuffed motor.

every on i know including myself have had

blown box 2

blown turbos 8

blown engine 3

rat shit radiators 3

stuffed computers 1

stuffed intercooler piping 1

no intercooler 1

and if you get a JZX90, 100 OR 110 CHASER OR JZA70 SUPRA OR UZZ SOARER, the sump is wrong and will need modification and intercooler and piping will not straight bolt in.

so unless you have money and lots of time contemplate something else.

please note you still have to buy a cressida donor.

i worked out my expenses last night, the car, conversion and modifications i have done wheels and exhausts and suspension, i have am upto $30000 and in the next few months will be up for another $10000 to go bigger turbo an necessary items.

all the best

Totally agree...
Whilst I can't comment on the 1JZ/Cressida swap, I CAN comment on what the 1UZ/Cressida swap cost me (albeit with a lot of labour "outsourced").
Some differences between the two swaps but, after the last few things are completed, we won't be far off those figures ourselves...
