I'm wondering what wire is the "parkers or headlights" 12v wire that I would hook a gauge light to.

Depending on where your gauge is you can find it from the glovebox or cigy lighter illumination

i used teh glove box light wires, and tapped off them. i didnt have a light in the ciggie lighteer so i cudnt use that.
one note however if you do use the glovebox, u have to tape down the switch thing that rests against the glovebox door.
when teh glovebox is opened it releases the switch and the light goes on. easy to just pull it out and tape it down so that u dun have to open the glove box to turn your gauge light on

it's an '84
I'm intalling it on the drivers a-pillar, so anything from the HUGE bundle of wires under the steering column/dash would be ideal.
but I dont mind running a wire from the ciggy lighter

Try the rheostat then, it only has a power feed when the lights are on. (im pretty sure about this but double check first)
All you need is a multimeter to find the positive and im pretty sure it only gets the positive feed when at least the parkers are on. (and it should be a simple 2 wire exercise)

Adjusts the brightness of your dash lights.. make shure you grab power from the side of it thats dimmed or when you turn your gauges down your piller gauge (most likly to be the one shiting you off that you turn the brightness down) with stay full bright

ah, that's easy - and on the side I need!
got a multimeter, so can just test voltage drop on the "rheostat" wires to see which one is the dimmer
thanks guys!
