AE71 tailshaft- 1 or 2 piece?
|

Is the tailshaft from an AE71 corolla (4AC) one or two piece?
Any ideas on the length of the shaft (or halves)??
I need to put an AE71 T50 into my T18, but the T18 tailshaft has the wrong splines for the box.
Thanks in advance.

the diff is different in both.
ae71 = borgwarner light duty
te72 = T? seriers toyota
the housings on the diffs are different lengths
short answer is the ae71 shaft will NOT fit in TE72

BUT: If the AE71 is 2 piece, can the front section be used with the rear section of the T18 tailshaft? This is what i'm getting at....
So is the AE71 2 piece or not?
cheers

Thankyou
If I can find out the total length of the AE71 shaft, maybe I can modify it to use the T18 diff flange.

the KE70 is definitely 2 piece and i'm pretty damn sure that the AE70 would be 2 piece as well (since they are same body, just different motor)
the T box and K box are same length so i'm pretty sure the shafts are same lengths too.
i have one at home but won't be able to measure it for a few weeks i have the front shaft of a TE72, but no back half.
you could ask Michael Seymour, he was mucking around with Ke/AE70/AE86/TE7x tailshafts, for his AE7x rally car.

it is 2 pieces but they are not detachable - ie it is constructed from 2 sections but you cannot unbolt the rear section from the front section like on the japanse versions.
the locally assembled stuff is very different to the jap stuff.

bugger!
Is the tailshaft diameter still 2 1/2 inches? If so, i'd happily just cut the front yoke off and fit it to a T18 shaft.

Yeah, i'm just trying to source one in the "Parts Wanted" section at the moment to see if they're a straight swap. I cant find a wrecker here in canberra that has an AE71 corolla. Reckon toyota would still stock them?
