TA22 Brakes On Bigworms Webpage Thu, 31 July 2003 11:24 Go to next message
Hey guys i need to know if anyone has done a similar upgrade to their TA22 Brakes as this on website http://members.optushome.com.au/big.worm/scs/DSC00 455.jpg

The pic shows the brake fluid holder is on top of the brake booster unless i'm confused!

Can anyone explain this in more detail, my understading of braking systems is somewhat limited. So any insite would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a conversion which is combined with larger front and/or rear brakes or has this been done to create more engine bay room and to just make it look neater?

Also what motor is in this TA22 is it a 3sgte?

NO NO NO, you are very confused, what you can see is the clutch master cylinder mounted along side the brake boosted, making it apear ontop, only due to the angle of the photo.

That is Yogi's car. It was a 4AGZE, now it's a 4AGTE..!! He only has one brake fluid resovoir, the other one is the clutch fluid.

Ok i think i'm still a little confused guys, i cans see that the clutch fluid resovoir is in it's standard position but on my Celica the brake fluid resovoir is mounted seperate to the brake booster. It still looks to me like yogi has mounted a resovoir on the brake booster!

Thanks

Ben

Ah, you're talking about having the reserviour bolted up next to the strut tower with a hose going to the master cylinder!
Different celicas come out with different locations for the reserviours, don't ask me why. Mine has 2 reserviours both in the master cylinder, but also has (well, it had) the holes in the panel up next to the strut tower for the remote reserviour.
Have a look around, you may be able to find something that will fit. If you pull the hose off the m.c. you'll prolly be able to bolt a couple of cups where it used to go.

Oh, & chances are yogis upgraded his m.c. Is it the tercel m.c. that is a straight swap for TA22s, or is that for sprinters?

Bjkingwill,

The TA22 brake master cylinder does have a remote reservoir from factory. Yogi has changed his master cylinder to a Toyota Tercel item. (Same as mine) Its simple and effective bolt on upgrade.

A T-18 Brake master will also bolt on but is apparently not as effective. ( Jamie changed his TA22 to a T-18 unit then to a Tercel unit and was happy with the end results. )

The Tercel unit does have the same size bore as the Stock TA22 but its alot more modern design and works alot better IMHO.

Yogi's car is actually no more so he may part with the brake master cylinder if he still has it. (And no it wasn't crashed just pulled apart and sold off in bits Sad )
