Re-registration Proceedure in Victoria

Hi all.
I'm about to try to reregister a 1972 Toyota Celica in Melbourne. My understandings of the proceedures involved are pretty vague.
I believe;
- The car will require a roadworthiness certificate.
- The RWC must specify body and engine numbers for the registration record.
- I'll need to buy numberplates as well as pay registration fees.
What is actually involved in putting a car back onto the road? For example, will the car need to be physically presented to VicRoads? If so, will it be inspected in detail? Any other advice?
Thanks!

Hey,
I'm going to be doing the same in the near future.
First of all you'll need to go to the cop shop to get a permit to drive the unregisted car on the road. You can only drive it if you are going to get road worthy items fixed, a road worthy or registration. An it can only be driven between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.
Then when you take it in for a road worthy then they'll list all the engine numbers and chassis numbers on the paperwork.
Once that passes, take you car down to Vic Roads with the paper work. They'll probably ask you to bring your car in so they can check it all to make sure it's ok and check the numbers.
You'll then get all the papers you need for rego. You shouldn't have to pay for the plates unless you get personalised ones. They should just be covered in the cost of the rego.
Good luck.

I'm about to do the same thing here as well. Its my understanding that here (WA) you have to pay for the plates when you get your car over the pits, might be different in other states of course. They are under 20bucks here tho so its no big drama.

from what i remember all they did was check that the engine/VIN numbers matched what you write down on the registration form.
i'm not sure about having to go to the cops to get a permit, cause i remember we didn't have to, the vicroads people just told me if i got pulled over show the cops your appointment number and they could call vicroads and check it out.
(dont quote me on this, it was a while ago and might have changed)
you do have to pay for the number plates, its only around $30-$40 though

yeah, got my car registered recently.
Just get a roadworthy.
Bring it down to vic roads. if u get pulled over, just show your appointment slip I guess.
At vic roads, they'll check the VIN and engine numbers. Also a spot roadworthy check (visual).
Pay for your plates ($20 bux), and the registration, and away you go.
tada. and rock on.
