You do realise that when coupled to an auto they become on of the slowest, most sluggish cars on the road?

Just outa curiosity - why the insistance on auto?
I bought an auto - rest of car was so good, I thought I could either live with auto or convert. Now, in the middle of a massive engine swap and power-up - it looks like I'm going to be stuck with auto for a while longer. I know the conversion to manual isn't 'hard', but getting all the pieces together, getting the time to do it, and buying quality materials to work with all makes the proposition a right royal PITA.
That said, autos aren't that bad. And you might pick up a nice and well-priced Celica-Supra that others have passed-up because it has the slush-box. Good luck in your hunt! It's always good to see another Mk2 Supe added to the ToyMods fold.

Yeah Rob, that is a slow auto MA-61 . I only hope my 1J can give it a run for the money.
I've been looking at what the Soarer guys are doing with their A4 blah-blah auto boxes in the way of valve bodies, coolers, torque converters, stall speeds, etc. Result: you can get a bit of get-up-and-go for street and strip outa these boxes, but a manual conversion still seems a better propostion (for my tastes, anyway). That said, auto boxes often come free or dirt cheap with engine packages and are dead easy to swap between engine and chasis models.
Mate, remember November is only 3 months away. At least with an auto, you've got a better chance that the 5ME hasn't been flogged to death. Good luck to ya and send some pics (here and to www.celicasupra.com) when ya get it. Maybe also write a tech article on the manual conversion?
