Ran out of petrol the other day which indicates the fuel gauge isnt working, as I just noticed it sits on full all the time. Took out the float and all seems fine and just to make sure we ran new wiring down to the dash and thats no problems.

If I take the float out and move it accordingly, empty point reads empty on dash, full for full etc. As soon as I put it back in the tank and screw it in it goes back to full. Also the Fuel almost empty light which comes on when your almost out of petrol does not come on either. We resolded the loose connection but this did not do anything. The light comes on when the device on the end of the fixed arm is earthed.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions I could try? If anyone needs more information Ill try my best.

Did the sprinters come with a warning light?
I ran out of feul once cause I thougth it did.. Smile
Maybe mine sprinter had the same problem as yours.

Mine didn't stay on full though I would say the float arms is sticking, you could try adding a bit of weight to the float. Don't know what you could use though.

sprinter have a warning light, when mine comes on, i only have about 150 kms left before i run out of fuel, so i have to be careful with that.

is it sticking? how hard is it to move up and down?

my gauge is "funny" as in non linear (goes down from full pretty fast, then goes slow from 1/4 to empty)

good luck.

The petrol warning is an orange light above the handbrake indicator, and it lights up when the fixed arm is earthed. Not exactly sure of the purpose of this fixed arm exactly. It has a cone shaped object on the end with a wire heading into it.

The movable arm on the float still floats fine which I checked recently. Thought about putting something else on it just to make sure but that would quickly get dissolved / weakened by the petrol.

Fuel indicator doesn't go down in a even manner cause the fuel tank is not a even cylinder.
It is narrower at the top so when full it will fall faster cause there is less volumn.

Since I pulled it out and gave it a bit of attention it seems to hover around the correct mark but when the engine is turned off for a little wheel, it moves back up to full again. It can take sometime to head back to the right place when its switched back on again.

What is normal, anyone with 'normal' gauges give me an idea Smile
