Air/Fuel ratio Sun, 07 July 2002 13:39 Go to next message
ok got dyno sheet and was checking out the air/fuel ratio and wondering what the best is?
its a 4age with microtech digi 1

its been tuned and is very flat ratio all the way through the revs of slightly above and under 12.5
is this what it should be?
what gives more power, leaner or richer?

thanx

About 12.3 is the best for making power on petrol or atleast where most cars make their best power.

However, 14.7 is the ratio at which stoichmetric (petroleum) mixtures occur which results chemically in prefect combustion and hence far lower emissions.

If the car is running alright at that ratio it will be fine. If it blows slight fuel smoke it may need to be leaned off. Also check your plugs for fouling, you may need a different heat range if they are.

Haha, very funny!
I wouldn't worry too much, from what I remember from looking at your printout, the hitmans done a pretty bloody good job.

If the hitman tuned it i wouldnt be worrying. from what ive heard he is one of the best. Joel you can have the Celica getting beaten, go to work and save for a turbo conversion.j/k

Your pretty lucky will af ratios that good.

Digi's are the older type microtech with pots for fuel adjusment arn't they?
If so that's really good, the guy who tuned it done it well.
Apparently from what i've heard anywhere between 12.4 to 12.6 is good for solid power provided your engine isn't prone to detonation which the 4AGE isn't.

At the dyno day it was perfect to see such a wide variety of cars and watch their af ratios as they get stuck into it. I couldn't leave the dyno room cause i was so interested in seeing what cars were running what.

Last year i remember a turbo mirage running ratios above about 19:1!

Yesterday i saw the LS1 Gen 3 running into the 10's cause holden chip them way safe.

13.2 AFR will produce maximum power, So it is normal to run the mixtures around 12.5 to be on the safe side .
