20V conversion Help Mon, 08 July 2002 01:35 Go to next message
Hi all,

I'm new to Toyota's and have a few questions about conversions.

I definetly know that I want to have a car that has a 4age 20 valve motor in it.

Now there are 2 cars which I have my eyes on. A celica, the TA22/23 model, or a AE86 sprinter.

What is exactly involved in puting this awesome motor into one of these cars? I know that the 20V motor are from a FWD car, so what's involved in changing it into one of these?

I would really love to put into a RWD car, but I don't want to go overboard spending money on it as I want a fun daily driver car, and would like another alternative to a Corolla with this motor in it.

Thanks in advanced to all! Very Happy

For more info on the transplant of the 20v into the AE86, look up www.club4ag.com They are pretty comprehensive.

Silver-Arrowz,

Mate I have renamed your thread to make it clearer to people what help you are after so hopefully you will see some help to your question.

Both the AE86 and TA22/23 Celicas are a great candidiate for the
20 Valve conversion. 20Valves are not my area of engines so I can't comment on how hard it is but there are a few guys in the club who do play with them so hopefully someone will be able to help out there.

Which Car ??? Well that depends on what you want really. Both cars have there strengths but to be honest at the end of the day its which one appeals best to you. Both cars are able to accept the 20Valve however the TA22/23 would require a bit more effort as it never had an A series engine fitted from factory.

Vehicle weights are comparable both are around the 1 tonne bracket the Stock TA22 weighs a little more but has an allegedly heavier engine so once a 4AGE is fitted it will theoretically be closer to or lighter than an AE86 with the same engine. This is speculation but it is safe to say they are very close weight wise.

Pick the one you like best because you like it. The technical stats for these two cars are very similar once fitted with the same drivetrain (engine/Gearbox/diff)

Thanks for that.

Well, I'm pretty stumped on which body because the Sprinter, I love the way people get them totally sideways! And also they are pretty cheap to buy. But on the other hand the Celica I've always liked the shape.
However saying that I really want a daily car, that I can drift. Are the TA22/23's any good when drifting?
