hi guys.. i am now the proud owner of an ae92 sx with a 20v blactop... my question is about the exhaust.. why, on high rpm changes, does the car backfire. its not a major BANG type backfire, more of a crackle which happens a few times in a second.

what is causing this? how can i fix it?

thanks!

usually from pulling air/fuel thru the chamber and igniting in the exhaust. is it running rich? do you have a cat? (excess fuel and cat=bad), stock or aftermarket ECU?
sound slike it needs a bit more decel fuel cut.

2.5 inch pipe seems excessive, you'd be losing quite alot of of your low band power, and as it reaches high band the large pipe diametre cause a baffle, the crackle which you here...

2.5inch without known tip diameter + 2x Cats would significantly root exhaust flow...

Most likely also has an improved air filter or not ?

As for your solution, try having your A/F tuned to the correct mixture considering any aftermarkets parts. If you wanted to solve the problem permanetly have a 2 1/4 or 2 inch pipe fitted unless you plan to majorly increase your power levels.

	Why is this a problem?

I get foot long flames out of the trueno when off throttle at high RPM.

Wouldn't have it any other way

	yeah its not backfire
as Draven said most cars with a/m exhausts crackle a bit when letting off the gas

it doesnt matter at all
i think its got something to do with pressure changing in the exhaust

and yes 2.5 is too big for a GE

If you've got a serious flat spot, then it's probably due to another issue, that is also causing the backfiring. Maybe your air flow meter is crook?
