Haha, just the thing to take out the N/A 1800cc and under class at the next dyno day.

Hey, seeing as how the 7A-FEs were pretty even with the GEs, think how good a 7A-GE would go...... 76Kw??? Pfffft! Razz

Very Happy Hmm.... Sounds like turbo power isn't enough, eh? Very Happy

So when you gonna buy the bits and put it all together? It'll be interesting!!

Yeah, I did a similar exercise.... and I had to be revived after I totalled the price of the bits up... Isn't cheap is it?

See ya around!

you can pick up second-hand ones - generally out of NZ (there is a guy over there who builds them) "rebuilt" from about $Au15k

I thought it would be interesting just to add the bits up.

I am not going to use a 4A for my NA Sprinter, GenIII 3S-GE it will be Smile

Well, thats what i think.. what is the rev limit of the 3S when using stock rods and crank? I know the 3S will be a lot easier and user friendly to get a NA 220hp out of, cost half as much as a 4A, but will it rev? I want at least 8500 worth of revs.

Cheers
Mike

Joel,
i am in the proccess now into building up a 7AGE. It is estimated, (using some dyno program) that the 7AGE shoudl roughly expect 108-115kw's at the flywheel.

You may think thats not worth it, just go a 4AGE, but, the 7AGE will keep the higher (maybe lose a little) torque and have the higher kw's.

On the dyno we just had, I came out with 58fwkw's (7AFE) and that was close to most of the 4a's, but then theres the extra torque. Or would the extra torque have helped that dyno figure?

Daniel,

Thats the next project that I'll be undertaking sometime next year. The 7A holds a lot of prospect, despite the long stroke of the motor. We've been doing a lot of work with a hybrid Honda 2.0l Vtec Motor, and with a bore/stroke of 85/89mm, the bloody thing still revs up to 8500rpm very strongly. With careful engine preparation and machining, a 7AGE should be able to rev as well up to 8500 or so!

The rods that were used on the 2.0l VTEC motor are stock B20B ones (CR-V), linished/polished/balanced/shotpeened. They are quite similar to the 7AFE rods.

MIKE==> The 3SGE should be pretty good to about 8200rpms...Cool

Cheers

gen3 3sge bottom end apparently good for 9k rpm. change cams, port, fit quad t/b's and aftermarket efi for approx 240hp. (i'll be trying it soon to see if it works!)

7age - i know of someone who has built quite a few - they are quite expensive to build, will make 250hp though, but are fragile - go BANG bigtime over ab out 8k rpm.....
you will need a 7a block and crank, custom rods and pistons, ported 20v head, custom flywheel, cams, and lastly - deep pockets.

Toby,

Just what I wanted to hear Smile

My plan was a GenIII 3S, with the stock shim under setup, fit BIG cams, valve springs, clean up the porting a bit, quad 45-48 throttles, a set of high comp forgies along with a full rebiuld.

Do you say 9000 with stock pistons? and if the stock pistons ar eok, a quick head skim should get the compression ratio up to 11:1 or there abouts.

Cheers
Mike

mike,

form what i have picked up the c/r is around 11:1 already (in reality prob 10.5:1..)

no need to fit the forgies - why spend money when you don't need to.

I'm only doing a 16v job.

And I wont be taking it about 7500 rpm because the 7a's bottom end isnt strong enough to cope. Although i take mine to 6500rpm and haven't had i bit of trouble... yet...

A 7AGE isn't that expensive, if you keep your eyes open, you can come across a 4a now and then, theres enough of them flowing thru the toymods for sale section.

I already have both and am on my way ! Smile
