Now anyone may want to correct this, and take this with a grain of salt if you will, but at work we fix squeaking drivebelts on treadmills with......soap.
We use a dry block of soap, hold it to the underside of the drivebelt and the noises dissapear, i was skeptical when told about it, but it does certainly work.....on treadmills at least.
I have no idea how this would effect the pulleys etc on the 5me thou.
Wait till someone with some knowledge on the belts pipes up, you may need a new belt if it makes noise.

mkay i slapped on some wd40 that did shit all?
mayb its the alternator itself?
it seems odd to me that it wud start to squeak all of a sudden if it was a loose/tight belt
the belt itself doesnt seem to have any issues

If ya really want to get all teckanogical about it, here is a procedure you can use a mechanics stethescope (or a big long screwdriver) to check for bearing noise.
Disclaimer I don't advise this method and won't accept any responsibility for stuff ups causing bodily harm. But if you are the kind of risk taker that drives fast cars and lives life on the edge, you might want to give it a go.
Put the tip of the stethescope (screwdriver) on the alternator, power steering pump, air-con compressor etc and place your ear on the ear piece (handle). All bearings will all have some noise, but if a bearing is crook, you will know it.
CAUTION. I don't advise sticking your head in the fan belt or the screwdriver for that matter. Be very careful. It has taken me years of practice to master this technique. Kids.....don't try this at home.....
Sorry if this doesn't make any sence, I currently have the flu and ame appropriatly doped up, so if it doesn't make much sence (oops I just said that twice....how do I tell them that due to the drugging process I have lost my inner monologue ) Well ask me next week.

pft
unless you're like me, and have long hair, you dont have too much to worry about.
I'malways really careful when under the hood with my engine running... one false move and I love a nice chunk of hair and scalp

No it's not dangerous as long as you are careful. I wouldn't advise using a stubby screwdriver, just make it long enough to get your head well away from moving parts and as draven said, hair is easily removed.
It is an easy method to identify where bearing noise is coming from.

because the warning light comes on intermittently
although the noise has seemed to eased up
