Who has one of these alarms and are they good / reliable ?
How much does it cost to install one of these ? I was told $1,800 + $382 service fee per year ? Is this right ?
Any feedback would be excellent

I've installed a few of these things. They work well but the yearly fees suck goats balls.
Check this one out:
http://www.rojone.com.au/genius_pvm.html
I've also installed a few of these. I reckon these are better because there are no fees.

Yeah I reccommend the Rojone one. The only thing about it is that it uses the GSM phone system, so if the car does get taken to a place that has no service your rooted.
And yeah I can install it if you pay for a plane ticket down there.

I dont know if its better than Quiktrak but if I was to get something along these lines I would get the Rojone unit.
Its much of a muchness really. You have to pays fees with the Quiktrak but its tracked via satellite whereas with the rojone there is no fees but it relys on the GSM network.
You need to work out where you live, where you possibly will have the car and make sure it has GSM access. This also depends on what carrier you go with.
Food for thought

but if someone flogs ur car, then all u need to do is call up stop the thief and pick up the car urself .. right ?
Can u actually call the cops and then tell them "look someone has just broken into my car, can u please apprehend them ??"
or does that just work with QuikTrak, cus they have the affiliaiton with the cops ?

Yeah with the Rojone you have a few options! You can call up the car and shut it down, you can track it down with the cockbiters in it then shut it down and beat the livin shit out of them or call the cops and tell them your car has been stolen and you are tracking it with a GPS. With the later option you can stay on the phone with the call center and keep supplying them with location updates.

Yeah you call the cops and keep them updated with the location and then when they see the car you can shut it down. If you lucky the cops will put their donuts down and run after the tossers.
Personally I wouldnt even bother calling the cops, I would call my mates and go track the car myself.

The new 1X network for Telstra CDMA will soon offer satelite tracking of your phone. They actually advertised this as GPS but it is only usefull as a locator, not navigation. It should open up a few options though. This technology should soon be found in other products like the gsm version offerd above as cluey companies build it into alarms and stuff, With 100% coverage not reliant on phone networks.

Just wondering, with the Rojone and the Quiktrak systems, if a would-be car thief was cautious, can't he simply knock off the unit therefore rendering any tracking useless?
Or another way would be for the thief to carry a radio jamming device which works on the same frequency as the Rojone and/or Quiktrak? cos I read in the papers about an australian website which sells mobile phone jammers (shipped in from overseas to avoid legal issues), so it shouldnt be too hard to modify the frequencies on these things for somebody with an electronics background.

In order to jam the things or even damage or steal them, you must know they are there.
Also if you simply rip it out the car just wont work!
