Here is a pic that someone kindly posted in a similar thread a couple of days ago. I think it was for an RA23 but the same principle applies.

You can see that the sway bar mounts to some flats on the diff housing. These flats are mounted to the axle tube by way of a U bolt.

When ordering the kit from the supplier make sure you can give them the diameter of the axle tube. This is particularly important if you have done some sort of diff conversion.

I'm no swaybar expert but I do notice that on a live rear axle the bar is actually mounted on the axle rather than on the chassis. I guess it still works the same. Is this how its normally done on cars with a solid rear axle??

Also - what is the other blue bar that is visible in the photo?

(sorry for the dumbass questions - I haven't been underneath many old toyotas...)

Man there are no dumbarse questions! (at least your asking questions about stuff you don't know!)

The other blue bar is an adjustable pan-hard rod. One end goes on diff, the other onto the chassis. It helps to center the diff.

Cheers

you'll find that sway bars are always mounted on the live axle and onto the chassis. its a very common set up. The anti roll bar acts on the axle. and its fixed via the chassis mounts.
