Yay for you Razz As much as I dislike Microsoft, XP is way better than their past performances. Sure it hogs memory, and security is leaky as a sieve, but its so easy to use and is so well supported in everything, including games...!

If you have the problem then in order to be able to download the patch that was made available on the 17th July then either stop the DCOM service or enable the firewall. Either of these options will enable you to connect and download the patch while you still have the virus on the machine.

Then install the patch and use an AV application to remove the actual virus.

If you are after more instructions on this email rpc@mss.com.auto get a reply with more details.

Ahhh, so because my computers are sitting behind a fairly tightly locked firewall then this is why I haven't been affected?

You should be safe if you have port 4444 blocked at the firewall.

To be extra safe, block TCP 135 and UDP 69 also.

There's one good thing about a Mac. It's a good base for installing Linux onto. Laughing

Well on my trusty Linux net box I have every port blocked coming in bar 80 and 23 (SSH?) so that must be why. Yay!

What kinda mac? The G5's are sexy as, so are the 17" Powerbooks, (creams jeans)

I didn't have this problem at all, must be lucky. Yeah, linux is the bomb for servers, going to get my old box up and going in a few weeks as a dev server running mandrake.

ssh is 22.

23 is telnet. Kill it.
Edit /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and set disable to no. Then restart xinetd with
/etc/init.d/xinetd restart

hehe

My first firewall I set up at home took one reboot at the end of the install and then stayed up for 320 days when a power surge took it down.
