Re: Extra 20HP for your Celica with this chip?

maybe...
where does the extra 20 horses come from???
chips usually only alter the input or output from the ECU so that it runs richer. if you have a stock motor, do you think that toyota would run the motor lean to detune it, so that this company can offer you a chip to miraculously get them back?
if you have done intake and exhaust mods, then maybe your fueling will not be optimal, and a little more will help, but chances are that the company selling the chips has no idea what you have or haven't done to your motor, so the chances are slim that your AFR's will be correct with this chip.
this person has 650 positive, 53 neutral, and 35 negative responses in the last month!!!
for example
"chip hell, it's a ressistor"
"adv. timing until eec retards it back shy of pinging, coulda been more descript"
"not what i expected, dropped and lost, should specify that its a diode"
"nice resistor, ya get what ya pay for i guess, :l"
"disapointing"
"Did nothing for my 2000 Ford Ranger v6 -ONLY paid him .39 ship+$3.95 for a resitor"
"check engine light came on car idle like crap, did u steal the chip out of a tv?"
" you said it was a chip and u send me a little tiny and funy RESISTOR ! NO WORK"
typically
"omplaint : ITS A RESISTOR-WILL DAMAGE CAT. CONVERTERS AND 02 SENSORS-CHECK W/ MECHANIC!!!!!
Response by mods_innovations - 100% SAFE. OVER 1500 HAPPY CUSTOMERS WITH AWESOME RESULTS. 15-23HP GAIN"
basically it tells your ECU that the AFM is open more than it is, or something like that...
caveat emptor

Huge load of BS.
You'll find that it's just a resistor of some sort to fool the air flow meter. Not exactly a "performance" product. I wouldn't recommend it.

If $3.95 added 20hp to a car then it would have been done back at the factory floor. Higher hp normally means more sales, for sports and performance vehicles that is.

they aren't the only concerns manufactorers have, they also have to think about the public image. Toyota don't want their name and the phrase "P-plater legal street weapon" in the same sentance. They can't make cars hugely powerful cause they'd be too dangerous, plus less reliable.
Look at the phase 4 falcon, ford never released it because of the public outcry over the power they were producing.

Pfft, current Ford/Holden V8's have a lot more power than those things ever did. The "supercar scare" was a strange event and I doubt it will happen again.
The point remains valid though - if Toyota could reliably squeeze an extra 20hp out of their base model Corolla for $3.95, you'd better believe they'd do it. I don't think such a machine would spark another supercar scare, but an extra 20hp would be a real advantage in the super-competitive small car market.

If you want a proper one that actually does something you're looking at about 800$ from I think it's superchip? Not sure but they aren't cheap.
