K-Mac strut-tops on ra28/23 Tue, 12 August 2003 08:16 Go to next message
Hey, I don't seem to be able to adjust these to give anything more than a fraction of negative camber (almost neutral) without the spring-top rubbing or knocking against the inside (engine side) of the strut tower. The castor's set at about 2.5 degrees and I guess if this was less there might be a bit more room to adjust but probably not much. I've already ground a decent bit off the spring-top, and beat it in a bit. Has anyone else had this problem and knows a way around it? I'd rather not beat the strut-tower in, are there smaller spring-tops you can use (with different springs)? Cheers, Chris.

hey

I looked into purchasing the KMAC strut tops for my T18, but decided against it for exactly the same reason. Whilst the strut tops have 3 degrees or so (each way) of adjustment, there's definately not enough room in my strut towers to move nearly that far.

Time for a coilover sleeve setup hey! Smile

Found much the same problem myself. I am getting about 1.5 degree negative camber before rubbing occurs. You would either need to use smaller diameter spring available though coil overs or use an offset lower control arm bush to move the bottom as well and use the top adjustment primarily to compensate the caster.

I've got the eccentric bolts to adjust camber on the lower suspension arm, but then comes the next problem of hitting the guards with the tyres (7 inch wide rims).

I think coil overs are the only real answer.

What are peoples ideas on getting coil overs on the RA28, T18 etc?

I've seen some kits you can get and cut the spring land/platform whatever its called off the strut and weld on a threaded sleeve?

Cheers

I just made my coil-overs to my TT-132. Works sweet. I made short stroke version and I use AE-92 shocks now. Now I can lower my car for summers and raise for winters. Only thing that I regret is that I bought only 2.5kg/mm springs. Way too feeble IMHO. I hope those springs serve in snowy conditions. Next I need to mill roll center adjusters.

I'm getting my TA22 struts converted to coil overs by these guys: http://www.shockreco.com.au/index.htm
I was quoted about $800 for the pair with Boge inserts and king springs I think Rolling Eyes All powder coated and sweet looking.

Cool1: Just advice from my experience - STAY AWAY FROM BOGES same to sachs, gabriels, etc...
4 pairs of fucked shocks is enough. Luckily those have warranty. I can recommend Kayabas, never had any problems neither heard a bad word about Kayabas.

Cool1 - thanks, I sent them an email in regards to the coilover convertion.
Anyone know someone in Syd who does these? Or where you can buy the kits from as I don't mind getting my hands dirty cutting the old strut up then getting someone to weld the threaded section on.

Cheers

Hey for the Sydney people.. Whiteline sell the bits and pieces needed to convert RA2x struts to coilover.

Approx $120 for each strut. That isn't labour, just parts, and not including springs or shock inserts.

Cheers
