Removing crossmember mounts Wed, 13 August 2003 10:08 Go to next message
Whats the best ways for removing the engine mounts off the crossmember? Can you just drill through the spot welds that are there?
I'm worried about just drilling the spot welds as it will end up looking like a cheese grater Confused

Thanks

If you drill through the crossmember you will compromise its strength i think the only answer is the big chop with the grinder im affraid

No don't use the grinder. I am not sure because I haven't done it but IDB in Richmond did mine and I have a friend unsticth a radiator support panel using this method. Drill the spot weld but don't penetrate the second panel ie cross member. Next get a cold chisel and belt the begeeses out of it until the rest of the weld breaks. I am told it is not hard to do.

ha ha HAMMER TIME

I have holes in my mounts, still heaps of metal there, typically only 4 spot welds per mount heaps of metal let to weld the mount down. just don't drill through the cross member and you should be fine.
