throttle position sensor necessity Fri, 15 August 2003 08:22 Go to next message
Just curious as to weather or not a TPS sensor is required if a MAP sensor is available?? after all, throttle position is directly proportional to manifold air pressure.......

An aftermarket engine management will be used also.

Cheers

TPS is a necessity for working out acceleration and deceleration enrichments. the ECU should work out the fueling from the MAP vs RPM, but if you slam the throttle, it'll go momentarily lean without the TPS, and when you suddenly close throttle, it'll be rich without TPS.

the car will drive withouta TPS, but will be more responsive with a TPS.

My TPS isn't the best sort all it pretty much does is tell the computer if its closed or open,

thats why when i put the rally cam in i will have to go to an aftermarket TPS which can monitor every little throttle position otherwise i will have too much of a dead spot.

might give you something to think about.

TPS is used for transients.
ie. The MAP tells ECU where the engine is but TPS tells it where it should be (where you want it to be). Hope that makes sense.
