2TGEU lack of reviness

alright, considering this:
85mm bore 70mm stroke Magnetic points Double valve springs 9.8mm intake lift (2TG spec i think) 10.3mm exhaust lift (2tg again)
One would think that the engine would rev a bit higher. I have a lightened 6 or 6.5KG flywheel in mine, yet it gets all noisy after about 6000rpm. The engine is standard, with unknown kays, but 162-167psi compression test on the cylinders.
Timing is generally set at 12deg. More advance (upto 16) has been tried with greater bottom end and engine response, but lacking up top.... and vice versa with less base advance.
I've read that the valves tend to mushroom from hitting the seats when plenty of revs are used and bigger lift cams..
Some possibly explanations: not all the balanced from factory ecu has some sort of rev limit to prevent valve deformities afm restricts air by enough to literally choke the engine.
------------
So, any thoughts on this?

I'm having problems myself, but I'm on 40mm Solex carbies. I was thinking I may have a fuel pump problem, as it won't want to rev past 6000rpm. With standard cams, no engine is going to be making more power past 6000-6500rpm. A stock 2TG will sort of rev up to 8000rpm, depending on health and a number of things. It may not like it. You need to have longer duration cams to make power over 6500rpm. I have got mechanical noises as well, not sure what. Maybe a damaged valve spring, maybe the chain as well. Not sure.
If you want to run high rpm, the whole engine needs to be ballanced and assembled correctly with no error.
I havn't had experience with the 2TGE stuff. Maybe your injectors are maxing out due to low fuel pressure? It would be good to know what your fuel pressure was. Maybe the valve springs are a bit tired?
Get those "Group A" camshafts in and see what happens.

yeah, fitting that other head would be interesting with the cams.
My old 2TG engine used to rev out to 7000rpm, and I'd normally shift about 6750rpm.
Well, I can always change the regulator, but my LP pump will feed 4x375cc Injectors at 100% duty. My HP pump is off a soarer or something with 7MGTE engine I think, which is plenty for my little 2TGEU

Ignition Dwell can have a HUGE impact on the Reviness of a 2TGEU. If you have the electronic Ignition what ignitor are you using ? Different Ignitors have different Dwell settings.
The Ignitor from a 22RE appears to run them quite well.
You should easily be able to rev it past 6000 rpm it is running correctly. !
If that checks out I would be having a good look at the advance on your Dizzy. check the vacuum advance is still working and if possible get the internal weights looked at the also make a HUGE difference.

okay, the vacuum advance/retard probably isn't working, because at idle the advance doesn't change by connecting or disconnecting the vacuum hose.
If i blow into it, or suck on the hose, it doesn't affect the timing (using timing light), a new vacuum advance/retard mechanism is $96 + GST from Toyota.
Regarding timing weights...... is there anything I can see here, or do I have to dismantle the dizzy?
I'm using a standard 2TGEU ignitor.
