Streetracing Etiquette

Not that any of us here actually DO this. But just say hypothetically that you were lined up at some red lights with someone and wanted to have a race, and you did.
Now I have experienced various forms of signalling etc, but I think I must be not totally familiar with ALL the conventions.
Like, I was racing this brand new Subaru Impreza RX or something (hypothetically), and bogged it big time at the start, and then proceeded to make up all my lost ground in the space of ensuing 5 seconds. When my nose was at his front wheels if not further, I had to brake to turn off Windsor Rd. to get home. As he kept going he made a 'scissor snip' kind of motion out of his window.
What the heck was that? What are all the 'rules' surrounding street racing signaling. eg "I won" = flash indicators etc...
Give us your feedback on the dos and don'ts of streetracing and the signals.....

I've made a lot of people shrug. Kill them off the lights, then next set of lights they line up next to me, look over and shrug their shoulders in a "I had to try" kinda way.
There also needs to be a sign when people do the "Loser Fly By" after you win and back off they do a fly by doing double the speed limit. There needs to be a double high beam flash or something like that to let them know they're a tosser.
One of the best ways to know if someone is gonna have a go is if they stall it up at the lights. If they're sitting on 4k revs when the light is red, you know they're gonna have a go.

I love street racing! (disclaimer: but only on private roads like freeways etc )
This has worked a couple of times for me but yeah....
If you see a full sik car you want to drag, then race to the lights and pull up hard and fast, so the dude already waiting at the lights sees you pull up fast and thinks you want to get away fast once the lights go green (cos he thinks your in a rush). That'll make him want to race you, to see if he can keep up with you.
I dont rev to make someone race, cos i think it makes you look like tosser.
or if the dude is concentrating on the traffic lights, i reckon hes gonna drag for sure!

If you stuffed up the start, its your own fault. You lost. Admit it, buy a turbo, get over it.
I've been training my GF to spot people that will race. Generally the first thing to look for is an aftermarket exhaust tip. If its a Lancer with a tip - they'll race. If its a WRX without a tip - doubtful.
I'm definately a big fan of giving the nod or thumbs up after a race. I like to complement the car on something that isn't power related - "Hey, love those mags!".
I like to slow down once beating someone, and seeing if they'll actually come up next to me. (did this to a SS Commy, they slowed down to 50 in a 80 zone so they wouldn't be next to me after I whipped 'em).

every race I've been in the other guy has been nothing buy smiles, usually followed by a "what engine have you got in there"
even the guy who crashed trying to keep up with me was smiling (I wanted to shake him and tell him to be unhappy or even angry, 'cause he just crashed his sisters car)

The fly by is what gets me. I don't get into many at all in the RA60 because the Celica gets owned...always
Whenever I do, unless its some little ricer who thinks hes great for beating me its thumbs up all round...little do the ricers know what awaits when the XX is finished

You know the race is over when the other guy puts that nice blue strobe light on, says: "Pull it over, punk" on the loud speaker, and hands you a summons or citation!

Street race ettiqutte is always difficult - often the "race" goes to whoever wants to exceed the speed limit by 100Kph for the longest time!
I am a really lazy racer (not that I ever have or ever will be involved in this activity) - if I'm racing a commodore/falcon etc I'll just keep my nose in front to rub it in a little! I usually back off quickly (2nd/3rd @80-90kph) too because you're an idiot if you're doing 130 in a 60 zone. This approach means a lot of worked wrx's beat me because I've ony gotten traction in 2nd and by the time I catch them (pretty quickly in 3rd) I'd be doing 120 and it's not worth it.
Although I did just get soundly beat by an evo 7 - it had traction, was gone and just kept on going! I lost traction, stuffed the shift to 3rd (f**king R154!) and had to turn off. I was never going to catch that thing.....
Almost as bad as the loser flyby is the loser "give up in first coz I wasn't trying"!!
And Honda's are in a league of their own when it comes to dragging - I've rarely been beside one that wasn't having a go! Often when I slow down and see them again, it's all thumbs up and slow head shakes - must be the sideways movement when the supra hits second and is g..o..n...e!

What about the look forward , you one won but i won't admit it , i am to cool , move .
This is normally performed by a Wrx owner , who had all the noise from the blow off valve / exhaust nearly drive you off the road , i used to come across a idiot like this every second morning on the way to work , we used to get stoped at a set of light on a freeway entry, once he took the turn lane around a person to get next to me , i would away get him in first gear and second gear for a bit in a 300k old alfa33 1.7 twin carby , One week he really pissed me off as i laughed and waved at him . So the next week i drove my other car , and on the friday got next to him and i did the i am cool move and wasted him .
Commordore drives are easy to get fired up i think , Wrx second .

VN commodores - king of the loser fly-by.
i remember once "racing" an N13 pulsar in the celica, and getting my arsedd WHOOPED! At the next set of lights i gave the guy the thumbs up, a smile and a well deserved nod - what does he do...
"HAHA! you're car is the biggest piece of shit ever bro!"
Some people just dont deserve to be able to spend money for someonese else to do an engine conversion.

etiquette is this...
1) thumbs up REGARDLESS of a win or a loss, a smile nd if u got SPANKED... u may ask what the fck u got under ur hood !!!
2) no need for name calling
3) no need for rice calling
4) no need for edward scissorhands our the window (chop chop)
5) and no loser fly bys allowed (unless its to merge)
Stick by these rules and it will be smiles all round

I agree.
On another note, what is it with hotted up cars. They see a "stock" sports car and immediately think they they can beat it. For example this lowered Prelude with huge mags, exhaust, spoiler, basically the works pulled up beside me at the lights yesterday and gave me a rev. I was all too happy to oblige. By the end of first I was at least two car lengths in front.
Why to they think they can beat cars like the supra? I dont get it.....

Well, that must of been his thoughts. I mean with a twin tip Remus exhaust that probably cost almost as much as my car how could he fail to lose????
Must say though, it was a VERY nice looking car.

I really do believe that most people don't rate the A70 Supra's at all when they see them on the street. Whether they think they look too old, don't have enough neons, aren't low enough, or don't have the "twin" farty exhausts I don't know but for some reason, any idiot in a Honda, WRX, Commonwhore, XR6/8 etc thinks "I'll beat this old piece of shit easy".
Too late they find that whether it's 7m or jz powered, the Supra's usually got the numbers and they're just staring at its tailights!!
Perhaps it's because everyone respects the late model Mk4 but bags the Mk3's???

I think its cause they dont know what an mk3 supra is. I mean everyone has only jumped onto the performance car bandwagon. So you mention skyline, supra, wrx and they know what your on about... but when you get into the older ones or the more exotic ones(less known.. such as chasers etc) they have no idea. So they probably dont even realise its a supra unless they see the badges
id rathert a fast crap lookin car personally

Whats funny is you see people in like riced lancers freak when they pull up next to an s13 at one lights.. so they do the "i wasnt even trying thing".. then pull up at next lights say against an old celica gt4 or soemthing... they rev it up.. and get flogged... The fast and the furious has brought so many dickheads who think they know about cars onto the scene.
Well thats my thoughts anyway

Gotta go with Les's rules.
Sometimes I like to let Hyundai Excels beat me (it's perverse I know).
If I get caught out by the person who nails it when I am not suspecting, I usually see how hardcore I can reel them in and as soon as I draw level, touch the brakes and give em a thumbs up. If I get next to them at the next set of lights, something like "that's mad mate, d'y'wanna fair dinkum go now?"
