Crank Triggers - 4AG 100KW vs GZE Mon, 18 August 2003 06:49 Go to next message
Hey Modders, Dumb question time.
Im dropping a 100kw into the racecar with an EMS, multi-coil & ignitors etc. The usual.
Ive been told the crank triggers from the GZE (sealed units that plug into the dizzy hole) are the way to go and to bugger off the 100kw dizzy.
Im having trouble finding the GZE crank trigger though - can I still use the original dizzy as the crank trigger? or do I HAVE to use the GZE one? Or can I get the 100kw one modified so it has no advance? any replies appreciated!

If you're running an after market ECU and Multi-coil then it doesnt really matter what you use. Its only purpose will be to provide the ECU with a crank reference.

The Distributor should be fine, however the CAS from the GZE is a much neater looking unit.

Or just make a reference trigger and mount it yourself Smile...

the 100kw dizzy will work fine as it has a 24 tooth ref and a 1 tooth home,

there is no advance in the dizzy as it is controlled by the factory ecu,

you can cut the end of the dizzy shaft where the rotor button sits and make a cover plate and it will look fine,

you cannot use a stock 86kw dizzy for direct fire coils tho, you must mod it to work correctly,

Cheers Guys - just want to make sure Im 100% certain before I begin though.

The 100kw dizzy has no mechanical or vaccum advance, and its not advanced from the factory - I will be able to wire it straight to the ECU and it will work fine (Ill make a cover plate for it later, while its in the garage Ill just keep the dizzy cap on it for protection).

With the engine on TDC with no1 piston on the fire stroke I should be able to line the dizzy up straight to where no1 on the dizzy cap usually is, wire up the coils and module (new motec module that fires 2 coil packs with one module) and the ignition system should be correct - so it should fire.

Can anyone else verify that this is correct?

Cheers guys - I appreciate the help and the fact that Ill save some money! I might get to that next big race meeting afterall... Smile

like dale says the 86kw type dizzy will work but it uses the 24 tooth chopper and a 4 tooth, three can be ground off for it to work like the 100kw variety.

there are marks on the dizzy shaft/body and on the inlet manifold cam which help you align things to TDC, no guesswork needed dude...

Its a freaking two year old thread, learn to read the dates before you post.

And no, bigport is NOT 100kw. Read every single other document in the FAQ, or the TechDocs and Articles on this site.

What does that matter. He may still of given me an answer. And yes I knew it was a to year old thread. That doen't make it any more erelevant does it. As far as I know 4age motors haven't changed in the last two years have they!!
