The gen 4 is rear wheel drive! Is it not?

Re: altezza pic's Thu, 11 July 2002 01:41 Go to previous messageGo to next message
There were 2 Gen 4's - early and late. The early one is FWD, had a red rocker cover and VVT on one cam only. The late one (sometimes referred to as the Gen 5) is RWD, black rocker cover and VVT on both cams. It also has other attractive features like titanium valves and 11.5:1 comp. There are other less significant external and internal differences.

I'll let the 3SGE guys clear it up a bit more for you.

So the FWD one is the BEAMS engine.

The RWD is the BEAMS II engine.

I always thought the BEAMS was gen 3 and BEAMS II was gen 4!!

Thanks for clearing that up GT! But what bellhousing are you using?

Max the Gen 3 is the ST205 3S-GTE, not the Beams 3SGE.

A 1S Bellhousing will fit a RWD Beams engine (Gen4or5 - I'm not getting involved in that discussion) with no modifications.
Only problem is that it relocates the starter to the LHS (standrd starter is on the RHS).

The starter motor problem is easy to get around! There is a guy in NZ that sells the bellhousings already modded for a very good price!
