Hi all, I'm a new member to the forum so please go easy on me. Recommended by another member by the way. (Cheers adi Very Happy )

I hate the fact that my first post here is a problem but I guess I would never have heard of the site unless I had this problem.

My brothers has a Mk3 2.5 TT R (1JZ-GTE) Supra and has just developed a miss at 1500+rpm. It only happens when the car is warm (eg sitting in traffic). Once the car is running on the road its fine. As soon as he gets stuck in traffic or is sitting still the miss comes back. It seems to be all 6 cylinders.

Car boosts fine, runs perfect when cold and idle's perfect when warm. Engine sounds perfect (no noises or rattles).

But every so often it will miss when you accelerate it or it will try to stall.
He's now replaced the plugs, fuel filter and reset the ECU but its still there.

You can burry the throttle and the car won't rev above 3000rpm. It misses for several seconds then suddenly clears and you're on the rev limiter

No ECU warning light is displayed either.

Any ideas guys/gals?

Any info appreciated as the car is becoming undriveable.

Cheers

did he do anything to it (in terms of mods) before this problem started happening?
it sounds like my car did after I'd installed the (untuned) microtech - up to 2k fine, then bogged down big time under fuel, the finally the turbo kicked in and all was fine.

is his the same? runs fine as long as it's on boost, but badly off boost?

Nothing new has been added and no setup changes done. It just started missing last week and has been there ever since.

The one thing we have noticed that it is temperature dependant. On the cooler days the car runs perfect and he cannot recreate the problem but as soon as the air temp rises the problem will occur that day when the car get warm.

It sometimes does it on boost also, so its not just happening at low rpm, its just worse down low.

check your fuel pump. Mine did this when i first got it.

The basket on the fuel pickup may even have a scum on it that slows flow and makes the pump tired, worth a check.

1JZGTE engines run an airtemp sensor, which senses not only inlet airtemp, but also engine bay temp. Your problem as described suggests that it is temperature related." Sometimes " Toyota sensors do go awry, possibly worth a look.

Cheers guys. You've given me some great pointers and ideas on where to look next. I'll keep you posted on what I find or if I can find the fault.

Just one last question. Do you know where the airtemp sensor is located in the engine bay?
