RT-142 live axle question - using in RA2* Tue, 19 August 2003 05:28 Go to next message
Ok.... well while out at PnPL today, i was looking at a couple of old corona's just for the hell of it. In particular i found it interesting the use of a live axel rear on the old CS RT-142 corona's (as opposed to the IRS F-series in the avante).

So i am wondering, what series diff is this that is on the live axle rear? And has anybody measured it up to find out if its possible to be used on an RA2* celica as an upgrade?

The live axle i found also has disc brake rear and 4 link panhard rod style live axle......

Thanks in advance to anyone knowledgeable in this area Smile

all else failing ill be measuring it up on thursday.

ST141's have a Borg Warner rear end, and I have a funny feeling the RT142 is the same. Sad

did the back of the diff housing have a plate that can be unbolted or did it look like a moulded housing?

ST14# definitly boarg warner *shudder*
RT14# think its a toyota unit and have been told the discs and calipers can bolt onto a T series housing.

Gidday

We seem to get a little surge of excitement on this about every 6 months as new members come on board. The diff is a BW (can't rmember it its 21 or 23 spline)- no stronger than a t series (most likely weaker). It does not fit into a TA/RA2x - it is too wide. However I believe that it is the same width as a RA40 and my measure tells me it will most likely fit.

If you want to know a little more on how you could use the discs have a look at my tech article on this site.
