Ok I now have the sweetest cruiser on the face of the planet,

I've been pulling the inside 'furniture' apart so I can trace wiring routes from the dash to the boot.

I've managed to take apart the dash and placed in my single DIN unit, but need to run power, trigger wire (power antenna) to turn on the amp, and RCA down the back.

I'll also need to find a single DIN cover plate to full the hole left by the standard japanese double DIN tape deck.

Has anyone attempted this before in a Z2, or at least know someone who has? Post me even the slightest bit of info if you know anything, I will be writing up a full report on how to do this on my website for any future reference.

Cheers all

Ok now I think I need to remove the panels beside the rear seats to guide the wiring through there, any ideas?

http://home.iprimus.com.au/jonesmob/soarer/rearside.jpg

The side panel there has a plug at the bottom that I removed and also some clips running up the side of the door, but I might need to take off the back of the seats too to get that panel off.. Confused

i had the exact same setup in my z2 but mine isn't leather interior. had the power wire for amp come through a big grommet near the glove box and ran than down the left side with left speaker wire to amp in back. had RCA's and signal wire go across the steering holder thing and down the right side. then i went under the carpet and took the seat out. put all wires under the back seat. Then bring them up and straight through the ski hole. Too easy Smile

sorry i never took mine out, just disconnected them.

Also, I found it very hard to get any decent midbass in the front. eg. I used to have alpine 6.5"s in the front of my old mazda. Moved them into my soarer mounted on a thick baffle and they never sounded the same. Changed speakers and still no luck. that was with 150wrms too!

Also, i tried having the sub box on the back seat facing forwards and it seemed louder, but not in comps. I got 138db with 1 12" sub and a lack of voltage Smile

Hmm ok, possibly the gap behind the speakers is creating a negative effect on the bass?

Plus, how did you get 6.5" spks in? My doors come standard with 4" only....

By the way i managed to get the read speakers out, had to remove the shelf and remove the brackets with the speakers attached.

It's going to be a nice system, nuthin in the ranges of 138db.... but very nice. Smile

I'd also like to do the same as you and thake the power thru the grommet behind the glove box, which one is it in particular? The big one with the big bundle of ECU wiring going through it? If so how did you squeeze the power through too?

yep that is the grommet i used. I made a slit in it and squeezed my 0 gauge cable through. IT definitely fits.

I had a 3/4 inch baffle made of wood in each door put where the stockies used to be. And just screwed it into the metal. All fit pretty easy.

P.S I think i had air leaks in my door, that was probably it.

The speakers are a task alright:

1) Lift the base or the rear seat out.

2) Unbolt the backrest, one bolt either side, ie. bottom right and bottom left.

3) Lift the backrest up, and wiggle out.

4) I had to unbolt the seat belts from the parcel shelf, to be able to move it in anyway.

5) Now you should be able to carefully lift the parcel shelf up and out.

6) Now you will see the speakers exposed, and they are mounted on some brackets. Unbolt the brackets, unplug the speakers, and remove off the brackets.

That should get you out of trouble ! Smile

I do have pics at home of when I did it, so I can pass them along if you like?

I'm gonna have a go at taking the rear seats off now, just to make life easier when I'm fixing the amp to the two cross bars at the back of the boot, (back side of the rear seats).

I actually managed to remove the parcel shelf without taking the seats out Razz , and then changed the rear speakers.

Thanks for the help fellas
