4AGE Oxegen sensor + Extractors? Wed, 20 August 2003 01:33 Go to next message
Hey Ppls,

Just wondering if there is a specific reason why oxegen sensors are in the no 1 runner on extractors and not say in no 4? Or even in the collector for 4-1 extractors?

IMO it is probably because that is where the original wiring harness reaches to. The most appropriate position would be in the 4-1 collector, that way the sensor gets to sample the average A/F of all cylinders. Although for an unheated sensor it will take longer for the sensor to reach operating temperature the further you have it from the engine.

There has been a previous thread on this subject. Could be worth a look.

the best option will always to get a heated sensor and place it where it samples all cylinders. you will have faster heat up, won;t get clogged as easily, and more reliable signal..
4 wire sensors are the go.. unless you want to splash out on a wideband (but not for the ECU, just for tuning)
