Hey everybody,
I'm after a 2JZ-GTE....i know it's a long shot but does anyone happen to have one? I'm either after a half cut or failing that a complete engine...i don't mind if it needs a rebuild.
Regards
Daniel

My Brother in-law and myself are looking at it. We're not exactly sure what we need to do yet. Yes, it will be manual. We will most likely be converting the ball and joint steering to rack and pinion though coz i believe the steering box would be a big fouling point for the back of the block. I also don't know if we will be able to keep the sequential twin turbos as i have a funny feeling the total width of the engine will not fit between the RA28 strut towers. Basically we are at the "will it work" stage.....It would definetely be a monster on the road though if it happened I'm also not sure about the balance situation though....any ideas what the weight of a 2JZ is? I think we would have to take off in second gear from the traffic lights if we can get this project off the ground.

Super rip off.
I picked up a JZA80 6 speed cut for $6000 back in March from Rolin Imports.

Quote: | the getrag and the R154 box will not fit in the tunnel without tunnel mods. u can buy a JZA80 trans tunnel from toyota for a quite reasonable price and weld it in or u can just use a W58 from behind a 2JZ-GE
but thats not the worst of your troubles, the main problem will be that the engine will foul the clutch slave cylinder. you will most likely need to set up a remote unit. dont ask me how tho.
the steering box is a given that it will foul, find a TA23 or TT132 corona crossmember and it will give u a point to attach brackets for a rack and pinion steering set up. talk to an engineer about it tho.
an easier conversion will be a single turbo 1JZ
the twin turbo 1JZ also fits with steering box and clutch slave but u have to shave some meat off the rear turbo housing.
some more help on JZ sumps is here
hope this all helps. ive been researching a swap like this on and off for years. i have detailed pics of a TT 1JZ in a RA40 engine bay and that is the same size as the RA28 bay. i can email them if u like.
also some pics of a 1JZ in a RA23 here on norbies site

Having looked into a 1JZ/2JZ option myself, I would suggest that the single turbo 1JZ may even be more hassle than the twin turbo one. The single turbo is mounted VERY low, making it quite qide at the bottom - in my situation it would have fouled on the steering box. I'd suggest that (even though I don't care much for Celicas and have limited knowledge) an xA2x would be much the same.
Regarding a remove master cylinder, think! What vehicles have little room in front of the driver for a clutch master? VANS! They won't have firewalls!
I think you'll find that many vans will run a hydraulic cylinder above the pedal in the cabin. I'm sure this could be adapted without TOO much effort. Certainly less effort than making an engine-bay mounted one fit.

I know for a fact that Rolin had an auto half cut for $3800 the other week.

As a friend, you may suggest to Troy that he's dreaming.
My friend bought a 2JZGTE VVTi 6 speed half cut for 7000. A couple other people from these forums have bought Aristo half cuts for around 3-3500.

Rolin Automotive have sold 3 2JZGTE Aristo Front cuts (that I know of) in the last 6 mths.. $3,800, $3,800 and $4,400
But hey, if you want to pay $6,000 - I'll sell you my JZS-147 Engine / Gearbox - Complete with Loom, All ECU's, sensors, Igniter, all pulled out of the front cut and ready to go complete with New Timing Belt, New Serpentine Belt, New Plugs, New Oil and Filter, New Valve Stem Seals..
Seriously though, there was one available for about $5,500 at an importer at Newcastle about a month ago.

Hate to put a downer on the conversation, but I think you will find the problem is not with the width or length, but the height.
I have a 1J in a RA28. The 2J is about an inch taller. The 1J only just fits. (height wise). And expect to replace the grill with an intercooler......
Have fun....
Paul.
