Which car is for me? Thu, 21 August 2003 11:43 Go to next message
Has anyone been to carsurveys.org? Almost every Toyota car review is positive! Rolling Eyes
What a waste of time...

Since you're all a bunch of Toyota know-it-alls, can you suggest a car for me? All suggestions appreciated, please also include your personal thoughts/experience.

This is what i'm interested in:
Very very reliable and robust
Low running cost
Fuel efficient
Compact/light
Good handling
Manual
2nd hand (less than $3500), any yr/model, later than 1985
Revvy engine would be nice
RWD is highly desired

I'm planning to use the car in stock form, so restoring/modding will be uncertain for the near future.

(Also, be specific about yr/model 'cuz there's so many cars in that price range on autotrader.com.au)

If you look hard enough you can find some real good deals on a 4th generation celica (86-89 model)
I got mine for $3500 , its cheap to run, and has pretty good power for its class, plus they look nice Very Happy
oh and the model that you would want would be the 1988-1989 SX with the 3S-GE engine.

Alternately an ae82 twin-cam would be cheaper to run but more likely to have been thrashed (potentially resulting in big maintenance costs).

I'd prefer a twin-cam just because where I live parking spaces are rare...

with a budget of $3500,you should look for an RA60. it's RWD so you can play at being a drifter, reliable, and in your price range.
parts are reasonably easy to come by as well.

Its not in your age range but get an RA23. Everyone who doesn't have one deep down wants one. And if they say they don't they are just in denial Smile
